Day 1 purchase. I love the worlds bethesda creates, I slightly prefer fantasy worlds above post-apocalyptic worlds but Fallout is also amazing.

I'm gonna play this game so much fuckfuckfuck.

@Chett, rofl at the cave. I agree about the fast travel thing, fast travel is for casuals.

Yeah, but I never used fast travel in Fallout or Oblivion, so it's no sweat for me. I hated fast travel because it defeated the purpose of trying to get a horse.

I know, that's what I do. They're complaining because in a smaller world Bethesda found it necessary. It's insulting; as it essentially makes the game casual.

i have a funny feeling that Beth might mainstream a lot of things in Skyrim. keeping my fingers crossed that they'll keep it to what the fans want. but i can see it having less immersion to appeal to those casuals. i want the armor and weapon types of Morrowind, but Oblivion took most of them away. It doesn't look like they reverted back to those times with Skyrim either.

They said it'll be bigger and more expansive than Oblivion content wise. I'm expecting more immersion as well, but even if it's up to par with Oblivion and just has Fallout's to-do content, I'll be happy. They did mention it's more "adult".

I'd get this game but I don't got a 360 atm.

I do agree with the notion that Oblivion was scaled down from Morrowind, in many ways, though a lot of the shit was unnecessary in the grand scheme of things (medium armor, unarmored, etc.) I don't mind toning down the game, so long as it isn't ridiculous like merging blunt/axe, but I also think separating long blade/short blade is also completely unnecessary. There was more to do in Morrowind, but a lot of it was superficial side quests with no real purpose other than to go to X cave. Oblivion had less quests, but more direction.

I'm just glad they got rid of that stupid leveling system in Oblivion, obviously they were ways around it, but it was annoying seeing bandits dropping daedric/glass armor, and every cave resetted every few days, basically defeating the purpose of clearing it out in the first place.

I don't agree with removing Fast Travel though, maybe if they could find a way to appeal to the casuals and hardcore fans by having those stilt rider in Morrowind or something akin to that (ala dragons), and allow a hardcore mode which allows you to remove fast travel. But other than that no need to punish casuals or make this less user friendly for no reason, it's superfluous. Do remove that annoying red dot that leads to quests though, that's an insult to our intelligence and is basically saying "You're retarded".

I used to lurk the Bethesda forums though, and there's some radicals on both sides, i.e. wanting this game not to have audio and make every NPC a walking History book like Morrowind, which is stupid as shit.

Fuck Fable 3, that game was horrible. Down right horrible. You'll see when you finish it because I don't want to spoil anything but it just doesn't play like any of the other Fable's.

However, I saw the trailer to Skyrim and it looks pretty cool, so I might actually buy it!
But just one question? Will I have to start from an earlier game to get the story straight? Or can I start from Skyrim?

You can jump right into the game, they might make reference to past games and the characters in it, but for the most part you can enjoy this game independent of its predecessors.

As said above, you can just jump in, but it's a direct sequel to Oblivion, so it would be good to play that first. It's a cheap buy now, and is still one of the greater open world games available.

yea it's cheap as hell now.

also, if you wait a little to closer to Skyrim's release you might could catch a sale on the DLC for Oblivion. nothing was said about this from them but i've seen it done with other games.

They already did when Fallout 3 came out (I think). I picked up a Game Of The Year edition Oblivion with free DLC vouchers a few weeks before launch.

i get that way later in the game. in Oblivion i started out walking everywhere until i decided on where i wanted to start with that character. then as my plate fills up with more and more things to do i fast travel.

on a side note. i hope they fix the stealth system. in Oblivion it was ridiculous the way you could stand literally right in front of someone and still not be seen. Fallout 3's stealth was pretty unforgiving though. unless you were 50 miles away they caught you before you could take advantage of the situation.

Well, Fallout took a strategic approach with their stealth, as apposed to a "magic invisibility cloak" approach. It was good if say, you were in a building and you heard a mutant... If you had a high perception/stealth, you could easily kill him before he even has a chance to hit you.

The problem with it is that it's HARD to reach a high level in it because of all the more important attributes needed. Point distribution was difficult sometimes, which made the game all the better for me, more tactical.

On that note, they're doing the [a] same [similar] thing with Skyrim, so it should make for an interesting character development experience.
