iPod shuffle wont'play music

I got an ipod shuffle. I didn't use itunes 2 download music. all I did was go into windows media player and synced the music that i wanted into my ipod. well it won't play the music and it says that there's no music on it, but when i open the ipod file it says that there is music on it. why won't it play it????

I guess you need to download iTunes.
