Unicen BCD 396T Digital Scanner

Okay my step dad wants me to help him get this scanner to connect. But i don't know what's wrong. I hooked up the connection witj the serial port connector that it cam with and that didnt work. we went and got a usb convertor and doesnt work. i've downloaded the programs it needs. and when i try to install the new firmware to it, it won't work cuz it says it's not the right scanner when it's the firmware for it. so can anyone help us please?

I'm no expert, but it looks like the scanner's just faulty to me.
