Need Help- Email Problems

So today I woke up and realized my gmail account spammed every single contact/email I've ever had with some stupid ad. Now I've never had this happen to me before so I'm a little bit confused on how to solve the issue. Does anyone know if this is a virus or is it spyware or did my account get hacked/I have to change the password. I'm probably going to do a scan and change my password, but it'll be easier for me to solve the issue if I can isolate the problem.

this happend to me with msn but the problem went away by it's self after a week(or 2)

Not sure what you can really do other than run a few virus scans and change your password.
