Monologue - PLEASE HELP!

Postby Ticalrecords » Mar 13th, '10, 04:48

ok so i have to perform a monologue for my oral communications class, and i plan on doing this "monologue"/ rap. The only requirement of the assignment is that i have to show emotional travel. I've never told anyone else that i rap, so this will be the first time people hear me rhyming. obviously first impressions are everything, so i gotta kill this shit. I have to perform this on Monday so i need some feedback. PLEASE. seriously, i dont wanna fuck this up.

my slate will be: this is a critique of the current rap music scene as i see it.

So… im in a bind, ya see, I want to be praised for… portraying a human. I want to be understood without having to constantly rephrase it with music – behind it and I wish when I kid, around people would find it… humorous? With the smallest trace of irony? Its not a complete jumble, my ideas are connected like complicated wiring. Ya feel me? but im tired of using similes as a crutch. (pause) sorry I use metaphors like Tupac uses enemies as a front – to doubt his corrupt friends. See I find that funny cuz I’m just thinking how to one up them. ya feel me? But its arbitrary, and I know how opposed you are to swearing, but God DAMNIT its hard to carry – on when you know all the rap Gods are clearly gone. And the rest? Jus tryna survive in this game, then they turn around and try to complain, that despite what they thought, fame fails to hide all the pain. Ahh that’s bullshit… because there were a thousand artists who dropped before you, all of whom made it their job to warn you. Well come on now its your own fault you didn’t listen close enough. So don’t be surprised when your version of what you think is emotional – doesn’t touch my heart. But still, the thrill, of being labeled without libel, is only heightened by being able to sound viable. But somewhere between making the transition from Indie to major, MCs catch a disease known simply as vapors. And now mythical status becomes the norm, too much exposure. Hip Hop is dead, only after you comes the closer. whatever man Im not tryna be “real” – no im just tryna prove I have flesh and blood. Cuz you know and I know that the truth can’t be stretched enough, oops I meant stressed enough. Haha Come on really, if we killed half the idiots we said we did, then who’s been fathering these dead beat kids, who have nothing more in their life than to envy this, glamorization of excess that exceeds bliss. Really now, this example of ignorance is appalling.

i plan on saying it like a monologue, but emphasizing the rhyming ever so slightly, if that makes sense.

Ah, you use blasphemy in your communication class.

It's well written.

As for the performance, I strongly urge you to NOT use hand maneuvers like rappers do. It looks ridiculous, and ridiculous isn't what you're going for.
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
