I’m not cheap—I just know the value of money
I grew up dirt poor, four walls and one floor-so I know the value of money
But let me take you out, out, and let’s get a bite to eat
I open your doors for you, and I pull out your seat
Trying just to show you a good time—that’s it
But I’LL BE DAMNED IF YOU ABOUT TO DO THAT SHIT
You knew—
For 3 days, dammit you knew
That we were going out to dinner tonight, so who the fuck are you
After messing over your side salad, and two bites off the main course
Wipe your mouth from side to side and open your mouth with discourse
And say… “I’m Full”
I’m Full?
What the hell do you mean you full?
You better pick up that knife and fork and start cutting till it’s dull
And you say things like… “I just don’t feel like eating a bunch”
Or “I ate before I came”, or “I had a big lunch”
Yeah yeah…but like I said, you knew
You disrespect the few dollars in my pocket by doing what you do?
And I know this is supposed to be about getting to know you on this date
But you got a weeks full of groceries sitting on your plate
Maybe not for some—but for a single man living on his own
So what I just gave to you, you can now consider a loan
So—keep sipping that strawberry lemonade you got, on the rocks
And don’t even bother asking that waitress for a box
Nope—No doggy bags—cuz if you ain’t paying this fee
Everything you got up on your plate is going home with me
And I’m not cheap—but I’m also not wasteful
And I know that it’s wrong and definitely not tasteful
But that’s me—So let me take you out, out, to a movie
We can watch what you like, or something that moves me
Nope, that’s not a new type of credit card that you see
When I pull out of my wallet—my student ID
All faded and taped up, and that kid with the smile
17, bald face, and kinda looking to the side
That’s me, and I know I been outta school for a minute
But paying the student fee for me is something that never ended
And I’m not cheap, just frugal when I rock it
And please say that you got yours somewhere in your pocket
Damn, admission is crazy—and naw, I’m not poor
But paying full price is like 6 dollars more
And I know you not hungry—so stop that popcorn talking
Hot dog? We passed a McDonalds before we walked in
And no candy either, so don’t bother asking me
Especially since I got my coat filled to capacity
Four pockets—I know those JuJubees looking nice
But I racked up at Wal-mart for a lower price last night
And I hope you took some no doze or a red bull
Cuz if you start falling asleep, I’m a start to prod, push and pull
You coulda stayed yo ass at home if you felt drowsy
I ain’t paying for you to sleep—that shit is really lousy
And I’m not cheap—well fuck it I’m cheap
But this is my philosophy—and I’m not getting deep
Just showing you me—cuz this movie that you see
I coulda downloaded on my computer and watched at home for free
