G-Unit & Kanye West Weigh In On Mixtape Industry In New

As the controversy surrounding mixtapes has come full circle in recent months, director Walter Bell is set to release a documentary DVD on the underground industry.

Taking over a year and a half to complete, Mixtape, Inc features candid interviews with hip-hop's elite, including mixtape heavy hitters DJ Kay Slay, DJ Clue and DJ Green Lantern, rappers Kanye West, G-Unit and Fabolous, and Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) president Carey Sherman, among many others.

The documentary takes an in-depth, behind the scenes look at the growth of the mixtape industry and its possible consequences. "We're doing a documentary about the entire mixtape universe - the culture, the product, the people that's centered around it, nationally and internationally," Bell said via a statement. "Basically we're trying to lock down something that's historically significant. Something like [the classic hip-hop film] Wild Style that kids can look back at 10, 20 years from now. War games have existed for a long time; mixtapes became hip-hop's war games."

In related news, the hip-hop community was shaken earlier this year after mixtape heavyweights DJ Drama and DJ Don Cannon were raided and arrested by the RIAA on federal racketeering charges. The case has yet to go to trial.

Walter Bell's Mixtape, Inc hits stores on May 22.
