The victim told police that $6,400 worth of jewelry had been taken from her home Friday after Melissa A. Dineen, 22, of Monroe, N.Y., visited her. Dineen agreed to meet the victim at the diner to return the items. Police were at the diner waiting to arrest Dineen.
Dineen returned the jewelry and was charged with felony counts of grand larceny and possession of stolen property as well as misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She is being held pending arraignment.
A man with her, identified by police as Ryan J. Blake, 20, of Harriman, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, after police said they found that he had with him a tab of the prescription drug Xanax. He was released without bail and told to return to Airmont Village court Wednesday.
