I plan on asking my girlfriend to marry me in the spring. I have seen so many relationships go straight to heel as soon as they are married, because they jumped it too soon. I have thought soooooo long and hard about this decision and I'm sure its the right one. I see life as living in the moment, but seeing the future in things as well. I love this woman, and I have complete faith and trust in her, or else I wouldn't have ever considered marriage. I want to spend the rest of my life together with this person and marriage is the way to do that. Like ArrineF said who I believe is hispanic, marriage is also a cultural thing. I'm Native American, and I'm heavily involved into my Native traditions, and she is more than me. So Marriage is the right thing to do in our tribes as well. We are from different tribes but they each have already met and decided it was proper for us to marry.

I believe in getting married when you find the right person. It's about commitment, trust, love, and being able to show that you want to spend the rest of your life with that one person. Its a big step & it says alot.. to me at least. Also, it wouldnt matter about the money.. how big the wedding is, how shiny the ring is, its just about the whole aspect. I'm religious, so I feel it's worth it. It doesnt matter about the statisitcs shown & what the divorce rate is & all that stuff. Sure, that makes me more aware, but like Zu said.. the higher the risk, the greater the award.

Marriage is also important for legal reasons. A spouse becomes a dependent, a married couple can take certain actions for the other, marriage is a recognized union by the government. This is why banning gay marriage is so absurd.

I think once a decision is made to have children, a married couple should be prepared and sure they want to stick through it. Once that intention is held by both people, go ahead and get married. If one or the other is going to back out of it, do so before you have kids, no need to get them mixed up in your shit.
