Is the internet a bad/good thing?

Have you ever wondered if having the internet at your disposal is a resource worth having? Is the Internet a "real" value or a 'huge" liability? With the commercialization of the Internet, things previously unreachable to us are now available through our personal computers. Of course there is the good and the bad.

The good (in my opinion)

Despite your location access to the latest news and events is constantly available. So too is the convenience of having instant access to friends, family and businesses through email etc...You can shop without leaving the comfort of your own home. Entertainment is always available; music, games, radio etc...and of course trivial knowledge!

The bad (in my opinion)

As everyone knows there is easy access to pornography (children seem to be able to find it easier than adults). Viruses and malicious software that affect our home and business computers are easily contracted. SPAM is a constant annoyance, there is deceptive marketing and scams...and perhaps the most scary - the online stalking of ourselves and young children.

So I was just wondering what your views of the subject are...

The spyware I get from the internet is just killing me ;(
I have one good anti virus and another anti spy and adware program and this limits the problem.

Well I think I don't give so much attention to the bad things in internet.I use it more to download stuff or find something I can use for school.

The internet is like 30% usefull information and 80% useless.

like its very usefull for ppl that know how to use it , but for those that are n00bs there are loads of bumps on the road.

Its definately a good thing for ordinary ppl, coz they can get music and video for free, but the industry is biting there tongue tryna stop that.
As far as viruses and porn, :whistle:

u aint gone get no porn on ur pc if u have safesearch in google enabled, and ur gonna be virus free if u use comon sense and update ur antivirus.

I can definately see the internet taking over TV broadcast in a couple of years from now, when the next generation of internet wiring is finished.

um.. Sometimes it's useful, but mostly it makes me mad when I have to find something.. A lot of ppl says "yeahhh, internet is the shit!!" - well, that's a bullshit, I'm sorry to say

Ok, I know we all use Internet to communicate, downloads and so on but sometimes when you need to find something fast, it takes ages to find something really good, cause you have to check 45398457843 sites with nothing really conrete. Plus all the pop-ups, adverts, porn sites and viruses of course, which always choose the best moment to attack your pc. Yeah, and those are mostly the moments when your looking for something important and everything fucks up. Cool, isn't it? :tounge2:

the internet is, in a way, one small step for man, one huge leap for man kind

its an incredible thing basically, giving us access to a shitload of resocurces, including video games

... basically i dont think its bad in any way whatsoever, though it DOES cause few deaths yearly due to computer addiction, but way more lives were saved no doubt

it's a good thing and for kids too, and if you don't want that the kids are on the internet when you are away, you can lock it with a code
