That is not answering #1 at all.

#1 concerns the origin of life / origin of the universe.

Leviticus 19:28 - "You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord."

Yet I see people with cross tattoos and Bible verses and I honestly want to ask them if they've read their Bible.

But then the Bible isn't the literal word of God and how can you take it like it is?

And if you say some of it is metaphorical; which is metaphorical? What's your criteria for what is and isn't literal?

Well, you could take it literally. Tattoos could be dangerous with unclean needles not to mention the potential regret. The concept of treating your body like a shrine isn't really a bad thing.

You know...you try really hard to diss the Bible and its teachings :-k

It's honestly not that hard. It basically does it itself. I just have to copy paste the quotes.

If things change over 3000 years, like you said, then how do we know Genesis is still what happened? Or anything it says in the Bible? Apparently it's subject to change, so how can you (I mean 'you' as in any believer) take it as the truth?

Not trying to be one. I'm only asking questions on my mind because they're relevant to the conversation...

Menzo wrote:Things change meaning people just get lazy / lenient towards things. Genesis has always been said not to be overly scrutinized and interpreted as direct truth, but there are certain types of Christians that choose to read every word as literal.

The foundation of every teaching isn't subject to change, like I said earlier, we like to convince ourselves that bending the meanings to fit our modern era is acceptable.

Okay, I understand that. I just think if you're not going to take the most crucial reading of the Bible (Genesis) as literal or direct truth, what's so important about the rest of it? For example, if you say Genesis shouldn't be taken as direct truth, the same people who say this put down gays because Leviticus says they're an abomination. I can't understand how they apply their brain to this and think it's logical... I don't know your view on this but do you think gays are an abomination and still think Genesis (and other parts of the Bible?) shouldn't be taken literally?

Menzo wrote: I don't know what you're trying to get out of me with this though, slow down SpEedee Gonzalez lol Don't get too excited that you're talking to a Christian and see it as a window of opportunity to put my beliefs down.

I'm not trying to get anything out of you. You're the one who replied to me and initiated this conversation lol. Not the other way around. I talk to Christians every day and not once do I try to find a window of opportunity to put them down. I could care less what your beliefs are as long as they don't interfere with my lifestyle and/or the integrity of our education/social system (evolution in schools, gay rights, etc). Believe what you want but keep it to yourself. I try to do this too and my comments about tattoos weren't directed at any specific person. :y:

No. My family has identified as Christian, but that doesn't mean I ever have. And no, it's not a relevant question.

I'm sorry, but how? You read the theory of evolution and weren't convinced? I don't understand this. How can you not be? It's as much a fact as gravity...

Nope. Never been high lol

And the THEORY of evolution is the same height of reality as the THEORY of gravity. "Theory" in science means the most accepted explanation of the facts and observable phenomena. Evolution is the best explanation we have of the fossil record, DNA, the gene pool, etc. Same with gravity...

A theory is nothing more than a person's system used to explain how or why something is. It's not fact. I never even said creationism is fact. I stated I believe in it.

Something cannot come from nothing, as has already been proven. Nothingness lacks any form of base. However, "whatever begins to exist has a cause."

Does that mean we can explain everything? No. Were we alive when all this shit started? No. It's all speculation.

Not a scientific theory. A scientific theory is an explanation of the facts. Not just a person's system. It's the whole scientific community's "system" of explaining observable phenomena.

Something cannot come from nothing. This is true. I never said the Big Bang says we came from nothing. The Universe exploded some 14 billion years ago and is expanding ever since. You can't argue this... The facts speak this. The culmination of every observable phenomena goes hand in hand with the Big Bang theory. We don't know what started it or what have you, but it happened and you can't deny this.

Just because we weren't alive when the Universe came into being, or when life first started on Earth, or when life in water evolved to land-dwelling creatures doesn't mean we can't know it happened. The evidence is there and it all culminates in the scientific theories in which I talked about...

Why do you believe in creationism? Do you have evidence you'd like to share with the rest of the scientific world? I'm sure you'd be applauded for surfacing such evidence and proving Big Bang wrong and evolution as false. Hell, you might even get a Nobel Prize for that shit. Or is it just faith, in which you have no evidence and just... well, believe in it...?
