Human Body Exhibition.

Postby yoshi » Feb 23rd, '09, 21:29

So right now there's this Human Body Exhibition by Roy Glover in Warsaw. It's similar to the one by Gunther von Hagens - the point is they show preserved human bodies, muscles, organs, bones. 'Owners' of the bodies 'donated' them, so it's 100% legal. Some people are outraged though and say it's disgusting and not moral to mutilate bodies in this way.

So I wanna know what do you guys think about it: would you go and see it because a smart guy called Terence once said Terence one said "I am a man, I consider nothing that is human alien to me"? Or would you protest it and say it's not moral, disgusting, shocking and both Glover and von Hagens should be burnt alive and flushed down the toilet for showing the most humane side of us?..

I would go yeah, it's interesting to see how our bodies work. And why would it be not moral when the people that donated their bodies are dead already and they apparently did want to give their bodies away.
Plus if it wasn't for that, alot of medical treatment wouldn't have had been invented nor would they have had discovered some diseases. So yeah I would love to see such a thing.

That's what I'm saying, but obviously some people are stuck in the stone age. I see nothing wrong with it, that's what we're built of and those guys give a chance to see how it all works and looks like for people who'll probably never see it, unless they're surgeons or work in the morgue.

Besides, how is this mutilating? They're not playing with the intestines and pretending it's a jump rope, that's one thing. Second thing is that whatever was inside those people, whatever was actually making them a real person, is gone. The soul might go to the heaven (if you believe in it), but we turn into nothing else than a dead piece of flesh, however cruel it sounds - that's the truth and nothing will ever change it, let alone bring us to life.

I'm all for it, I think it's fascinating and exciting to see it, to see how it all is built and connected and those guys did a damn good work. As long as it doesn't turn into 3rd part of Hills Have Eyes, I see ntohing wrong with it.

i 100% agree with yoshi
i cant wait to go to von Hagen's exhibition
i think its pretty interesting to see how our body works, of course there may be ppl that doesnt like it but that doesnt mean its unmoral, i think ppl who donate their bodies to this types of things really helps to improve medicine and all that
human body is amazing, learning how it works, every minimun detail is incredible and this kinds of things helps ppl to understand it much better

If I'm right then it was in Pittsburgh for like a month and it was VERY interesting. I had a great time when I went and I'd really like to go again one day. I'd suggest everyone take a look at it. It's weird as fuck though I won't lie. And you see some parts you might not want to so beware about bringing your illegitimate kids.

Damn you people, I thought someone would disagree and cuss me out for such a blasphemy like 'a dead piece of flesh'. Or say it's disgusting at least :(

You disappointed me.

I think that those body exhibition shows are really interesting. I've never been myself; my family and friends thought it was gross and wouldn't come. But I see their importance and how they help people understand the human body more.

Well it's hard to argue with people who died and allowed their bodies to be displayed. I don't get the people who say it's wrong. I mean if they are grossed and don't want to see it, then they can not go, but don't go taking it away from others.

I remember a controversial topic once though. An artist wanted to let a dog starve to death in an exhibit to show the art of dying. A lot of people protested because he was basically letting a dog die for art's sake. I also remember a dying man agreeing to be displayed for art. Both of these incidents are much more controversial imo (especially the dog because animals can't really protest).

I went to one of these Human Body Exhibitions in Barcelona a year ago or so and I thought it was very interesting indeed. You actually got a good picture of what our bodies really look like inside. I don't think there's anything inhuman about it since the people who're exhibited decided to do so.
