Anybody on the bone marrow donor registry?

Postby Amaranthine » Sep 27th, '12, 04:26

I turn 18 in three weeks, and then I can register, and I'm seriously considering it. I'm curious to see if anyone else here is registered. :flower:

:( I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. But thank you, because that gives me an extra reason to register.

How long until you can register?

Exactly. I'm also thinking about joining the kidney registry, but I can't do that until I'm 25, so I have a long time to think about it. I'm already a blood donor, I go to every drive that pops up.

Oh absolutely, you should! It feels great. And you're 16, so you can donate as long as you have parental permission. Once you hit 17 you can donate without permission. And the great thing about is you can donate blood once a month. I've never done it that often, I've only done it three times, when the drives come to me, like on campus or something, but if there's a Bloodsource center near you, you can donate as often as once a month.

I'm not big on humanitarianism. Especially not if it causes me excruciating pain.

That's a great thing to do that can save many lifes. Like ImANoob said if I could just help one person It would be enough. I think everybody who has lost someone of cancer, or have/ had someone with cancer on the family will be sensitive to this issue.

I'm not sure if I am, but I donated the maximum amount of bone marrow they would take about 4 or 5 years ago for my bro, It actually wasnt too bad besides some puking once I tried to stand up lol. But its definitely a great thing to do If I'm not registered I will be by the end of the year.
