I couldn't understand why people were calling it an instant classic either but after a few listens, I have come to the conclusion that it's indeed one of the best hip hop albums released since F&L.
Great concept that was executed with songs ranging from good to amazing. Album had vision and focus, which is very rare nowadays. Album does standout as a unique and masterful executed project imo. There may be other albums that I like more personally, but I wouldn't consider them a classic, because those albums don't necessarily separate themselves as something special.
gkmc = amazing flow, amazing lyrics, great concept, great storytelling, unpredictable rhymes (the rhyming across verse structures is very new) and he really doesn't need more complex rhymes, it would only sacrifice his imagery
Its too soon to be calling it a certified classic but it certainly has the credentials to be a classic and I personally think in years to come it will be, specially because it's the album to beat righ now, it's the "standard". I still hold F&L higher than Good Kid but imo, gkmc is easily a contender for best hip hop album since Lupe in 2006/2007.
Also, the artists that you don't like will come as overerrated to you, just like Nas is overrated to me but the fact is Nas is one of the goats and kendrick is probably the best right now.
