Personally I think you sleep best when you're listening to a constant rhythm, or perhaps some drones. It will get you into a trance like state where you're forgetting that you're trying to sleep and before you know it you're gone. Layers and layers of soundscapes to get lost in. Lyrics are mostly a no-no for me, some sampled vocals here and there are alright.

Now these tracks may not be your thing at all, but you shouldn't judge them before you REALLY listen to it (preferably in 320 kbps)

When you really want to dive deep into the world of ambient music, you have to check out SleepResearch_Facility. This guy makes music for people to fall asleep to with themes. In his deep frieze album it helps when you picture yourself snowed in somewhere on the south pole. His album Nostromo is about a crewless spaceship just flying around.
