Chicago police are questioning six youths concerning the brutal beating, captured on video and posted on YouTube, of a 17-year-old boy in an alley in the city's Bridgeport neighborhood.

No charges have yet been filed in the attack, which took place around 4 p.m. Sunday in an alley behind James Ward Elementary School, located at 28th and Princeton, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The footage shows the 17-year-old victim being punched in the face and kicked repeatedly by seven males while being taunted with racial slurs over the course of more than three minutes. His attackers also robbed the victim of $180 in cash, in addition to his sneakers.

The beating victim ran away, shoeless, was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and was released, according to the Tribune.

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told CBS Chicago he was "pretty confident that we've got the makings of wrapping this thing up." Though his department is still searching for two suspects, six others will soon be charged.

"We’ve got six people in custody. We've got two more people identified, who we’re out looking for right now," McCarthy told CBS.


Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel weighed in on the beating on Tuesday and said that it should serve as "a wake-up call to all of us," NBC Chicago reports.

"Those kids doing that to another child is wrong. It is not tolerable and it does not represent what this city's values are and the good people of this city," Emanuel continued.

Area resident Carl Segvich commented to ABC Chicago that he was "outraged" by the attack.

"We have war in our cities right now, and if they would have had a gun, they would have probably shot the poor kid," Segvich told ABC.

I wouldn't fight 7 guys at once. Plus you're implying you know about this beforehand. What if it just happened in front of your eyes? No weapons to grab. What would you do? The logical thing would be to get help before they noticed you were getting help.

When I first clicked the video and heard them sayin "nigga" over and over, I ran to the living room and told my mom black dudes were beating up this Asian kid. When I got back to the video and realized the kids were white... I mean, seriously, what the fuck? That video hit the same chord as "3 guys 1 hammer" because there's something about beating up an absolutely defenseless person that is beyond my comprehension.

I was watching subway fights on youtube and saw one where the woman screaming for the men to stop fighting actually ended up getting knocked out at the end. She tried to break them up and they just wouldn't stop fighting. So after seeing something like that, I don't know what I would do. I sort of was expecting the kid to go beast mode like the other kid in that bullying video, but it was even sadder just to see him beg them to stop. I'm glad he got away, but damn.

WTF? People...did you hear about the 2 year old girl in China who got run over by a truck and nobody tried to help her or get her out of the street? She died at the hospital, but she was run over again before anyone even noticed. Her parents were shopping or something. Shitty parenting and just general failure as human beings all around.

There's a video floating around from an associate of this group of kids. She says the guy who got beat is in a FOB gang (fresh of the boat). The FOBs went 20 to 2 of the kids in this group and this was revenge or something, I'm not sure what to believe though.

I'm 6'5 but probably wouldn't do anything on my own. If I had two or three other friends with me then I probably would of tried to to help. Trust me though, you can't tell beforehand how you react in a situation like this.
