I'm all for Kony being bought down & I appreciate the word getting out there. But Invisible Children do not deserve any money at all
How can you say that? Lets take the situation in Africa and think of solving it like running a business. McDonalds has a great business model, so we'll use that.
Now you have your cashiers and your burger flippers, who are doing the hard work and without them everything else would be for nothing. Now, believe it or not, there are ENOUGH of these charities. More charities does not equate to more dollars. You only need enough aid workers in to utilize the money donated. In other words, there is no point having 10 people taking orders at the McDonalds register if there are only 4 orders coming in. There is no point having a million people build one church.
Then you have the advertising campaign. Do you really think there is a person alive today (in the first world) that doesn't know what McDonalds is? Of course not. Then why so many God damn advertisements? To keep it on our mind, so we don't buy KFC or Taco Bell.
Invisible Children are the PR department, they are in the media, spinning the situation or emphasizing facts without necessarily providing the entire story ("Big Macs now have 25% less saturated fat" -- brcause they are 15% smaller and have increased sodium). The point is, they are keeping the situation on our minds. Instead of giving to cancer research, I'll sponsor a child. Or, instead of the kidney foundation, I'll donate to UNICEF.
McDonalds has spent BILLIONS on advertising and never reached the level of exposure this viral video had. You can choose not to support Invisible Children financially, and that's ok. But don't jump on the hate wagon because you've read ONE article and a few equally ignorant opinions on a message board. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. DO NOT LET PEOPLE TELL YOU HOW TO THINK. If you have looked into the situation and disagree with me, or you disagree with invisible children then I commend that, because of how you reached that decision. But please, always keep an open mind.
