This is about way more than that. That thread got locked because it got out of hand, and then someone made another thread to attack one of the people in that debate.

This went on for three pages of just batshit crazy arguing, after I had asked everyone to please let it die.

I get where you're coming from, but Backstage isn't a place to bully people in such a ridiculously harsh way. It was just taken way too far.

You don't have to belittle and insult members, just do your job as a moderator. Just spectating this thread is annoying, and I'm not evening getting picked on.

The religious thread was locked when it got out of hand, but that wasn't really the problem. It was the fact that people started these personal attacks that spilled over into the Backstage.

Religion is still up for discussion, and always will be.

@Rev, You may be right, but I'm afraid we have to lean on the side of freedom of intelligent discussion. Serious Debate should be an area where any logical argument should be able to be made, as long as it's civil. Once it gets out of control, it will be locked, and the discussion will be over.

So we might find ourselves here again, but I feel like that's the risk we have to take in order to keep Serious Debate what it is. We just have to hope that people can refrain from emotional attacks IN Serious Debate, and hope that people won't take those emotions outside of it when the discussion is over.

So...let's try not to turn this into a heated debate about heated debates about religion. We just have to face each situation as it arises.

I'm not that type of mod. I don't like warning people, because I'm usually expected to assign points as well, because that's what most of the rules call for. Informal warnings don't require that, so that's why you'll see mods do that from time to time so points don't add up.

Once a member has so many points, they're banned, and that's it. There's no way to get rid of the points, so I try not to assign them if I can get away with it. That's why I'll usually just PM someone if I see them spamming, or I'll merge a post or two if they're double posting.

That's also why I just tried to ask people to chill as opposed to warning everyone, especially because just about everyone involved are decent and active members.

I will admit in the debate section if I am having a convo with someone and someone jumps in and starts disrespecting God like earlier today, it bothers me and offends me. At the same time if someone disrespects Religion in another thread, it has no affect on me cuz it is random and could care less.
