I liked it at first because it wasn't horrible like other modern cartoons.
Then I liked it because I realized that even with it's insanely blunt plot lines and predictable morals, it was a sort of pure unadulterated kindness; something I hadn't witnessed at all in my entire life.
Then I liked it because I started to get invested in the characters and the season-wide story arc.
Then I liked it because it's a showcase of vector animation at it's very best and it's consistent as fuck.
Then it dawned on me: I like it because it was supposed to be just another little girls' cartoon. My Little Pony has no fucking business being any good at all. My Little Pony, for what it is, should be total production garbage, just filling in the blanks to get little kids hooked and nothing more, but it's so much more than that. I liked it because the people who made it took the list of things they had to do in order to create a cash cow toon, and they built upon that to create a consistent, fun, involving, deep world full of well animated and well voiced characters that make you want to like them no matter how skeptical you are.
I found out that I liked it because it's an example of an artistic team not settling for what was asked, but instead creating that which was beyond the imagination of the execs who greenlit the project in the first place.
I've been a closet brony for almost two months. I cannot hide my shame any longer.
