Menthols, or regular?

that gave me the giggles, hard.

What is cool is completely a matter of perception, right? Since no one starts smoking for a shitty nicotine buzz, it stands to reason that it must be because it was cool to them.
Yeah, I think everyone can agree on that
AbramIsaac wrote:Since whether or not something can be determined to be cool or not mostly hinges on how many people perceive it to be cool, the millions of smokers out there would seem to qualify it as certifiably cool.
Is the cool factor fleeting, though? As users lose their affinity for smoking based on coolness and replace it with an addiction, is their changed perception offset by new smokers? If so, will there come a time when smoking is not cool? Is it wholly reliant on a fresh user base to remain cool? Or is it somehow independent of public perception and shifting attitudes completely, and is just inherently cool?
Will a time come when it isn't cool to anyone? Hopefully. I'm not sure. Governments are certainly spending a lot of money on moral suasion for that to happen.
Is it inherently cool? Potentially. This is why I think it's cool - I think it's fairly obvious. Not giving a fuck seems to equate to being cool. Baloo is cool, Bagheera isn't. Smoking shows you don't give a fuck. The person who brings up "hey maybe we shouldn't" is seen as a loser, lol. Another fairly obvious point is that it must not seem like you are trying to be cool. Chett is cool, BigBoss isn't.
Now people seem to be getting this thread confused with me arguing that it's the right (or smart) thing to do. Of course not, lol. It's fucking stupid. Same for not caring about your future (sorry Chett). But people who (or, at least come across as they) genuinely don't care about things are cool as fuck.
I think the "not-caring" reasoning holds up until it is harming others. Someone who is knowingly hurting others and not caring about it isn't seen as cool. In our case, blowing cigarette smoke into a little girls face isn't cool at all.
