Just venting

Postby J.R. » May 29th, '12, 15:43

So I've kind of lost everything. My ability to rap (not the focus of this thread) and mostly my friends( my own fault) I feel alone for the first time. Completely. Besides a gf, which really isn't everything bedsides what most think. I do love her that isn't the issue. I miss my best friend and the person I use to be /:

Did you lose your friends because of your girlfriend?

This. Because if you did, that's completely your fault. Girls are great to have an all, but those guys were there for you way before her.

And you lost the ability to rap, because you probably don't try hard enough. Most likely you just try to write a verse, sit there for 20 minutes, and come up with something half-assed without really looking at it. With anything comes hard work. If you want to be a great rapper, you have to work for it. No excuses.

No, I lost my friends, (And this is been a problem way before I've ever had a gf) because I pushed them away. I don't mean to, it just kind of happens. They all want nothing to do with me. I always end up fucking it up.

Anyway, your probably right on the rap thing too. I'm probably fucking that up as well.

Hope this helps:

As for the rap thing, you can only do better. Do you know how to count bars? If not, hear me out. Each instrumental has bars, and each bar has 4 beats (usually one verse is 16 bars). These 4 beats are evenly spaced out, and they're going in a certain tempo. 99% of the time, there's a snare on the 2nd and 4th beat. The best way to stay on beat and learn how to ride a beat is to put your rhymes on the snares (usually on the snare that falls on the 4th beat, but you should also put stress or maybe a rhyme on the other snare as well.)

In order to feel and anticipate the snares, you should practice by counting "one, two, three, four" when listening to instrumentals. You should say one when the 1st beat of a bar falls, 2 when the second etc.. This comes naturally to a person, and whenever you nod your head you actually do it on each of the 4 beats. So start either by saying one/two/three/four everytime your head nods, or say two or four when you hear a snare, and you should get the feeling immediately, and start counting all beats. By doing this, you'll get the feeling of when a snares is about to hit, and after that you can practice this with lines, and make your rhymes fall on the snare.

You can hear this exercise here:

Well, the only way to NOT fuck up is to just do it. It may sound like I'm coming hard on you. I am. But that's because you sound like you really WANT to become greater in rap, but you don't have the WILL to. Fuck talent. Michael Jordan didn't have natural talent, you think that stopped him? Look where he is now. Skill gets you places. Hone your skill. Make it your craft, your own extension of you. A skillset equipped to your Life Knowledge. You want it? How bad are you willing to work for it? Soon as you answer that, sooner you'll know how long it'll take for you to improve.

Actually I'd say wrong for the same reasons.

I'd focus on rap instead of wasting time on them. Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna give time to my girl and my friends, but there needs to be time to write. I'm taking a break to clear my mind. I've decided from about my last shitty rap to about 6/8/12 (The end of the first week of my summer vacation) I'll rest, then I'll focus my summer on rap. I tore it up last summer, I can do it again. :8) Thanks Everyone. :sweating:

J.R., dedicating more time to writing doesn't solve your problem. What you're saying is you've pushed your friends away, so you're gonna push them even further. That's not the answer.

Apologize to your friends for pushing them away. If they don't forgive you, fuck it then. No point in worrying, because there's nothing you can do. Do what YOU need to do, if you want to work on writing lyrics, do it. But if you want to really patch things up, do that first. It's up to you.

You know about the story of Michael Jordan? He never even made his high school team, so he just worked at it. :y:
