I usually spend a lot of time Googling (if some of the books are more rare online), checking out different sites and link. Try different search queries.

Last semester I spent few days and different types of searching for a book online. That book costed a lot, so I didn't really wanna buy it. I found it online, so that's cool. I'mma try again now because it's a new semester

I had a similar question, actually. I bought a book that didn't fit the exact course requirements and it's too late to return it. I asked my library and they said they had a specific sight where I could e-reserve the specific sections we are working on in class. Maybe your library has something like this?

Google "Book Title" + "pdf" usually work.

If not..., try specify the search to 'discussions' - often there's someone who's been in the position you are in now, and has been asking about the book on different forums, and sometimes there are posted links that will lead you to the right place. It has worked a couple of times for me.
