I feel like what he was trying to do with Yeezus sonically was a step in the right direction, it was just executed poorly. Not only does it have Kanye's worst lyrics ever, but it also has him reverting back to heavy use of auto-tune (which I despised). While New Slaves is still one of my favorite songs this year, I feel like everything else on the album is lack luster and lazy. It sounds rushed, extremely forced, and as Rick Rubin stated "unfocused". The only reason why it's somewhat listenable was due to Rubin's mixing... Kanye couldn't have gone to a better man than Rubin to mix it... sonically, Yeezus is right up his lane.... unfortunately he didn't involve him from the beginning... perhaps Rubin could've done something to make this horrendous effort enjoyable.

I think it was executed well actually. It's not his best album, obviously. I'd rank it above Graduation, and it's probably tied with 808's. I prefer the body of 808's to Yeezus but 808's ends pretty poorly while Yeezus maintains a consistent level of quality throughout.

It's a pretty complicated album though. He didn't intend to make something like Illmatic so you can't judge it as such. It was intentionally abrasive and stripped sonically, which was perfect for the undertone of the album. Lyrically, taking it at face value, it seems superficial, but that was the point I think.

In a couple of years I think this album will be looked at the same way 808's is. People have been coming around to that album after a polarizing initial reaction.

While Yeezus will not be winning any awards at the upcoming grammy's.
