Based on the tracks mentioned in this thread, you can take away his fast flow and only have average lyricism, mediocre rhymes and a stupid beard.

His lyricism is top-notch, don't know what you're getting at there...

Medicore rhymes? What the fuck. Tech N9ne is one of the best at rhyming multiple syllables. I suggest you actually listen to his work because Tech is known primarily for his rhymes so that argument is really, REALLY wrong. Listen to This Ring or Come Gangsta and say that.

"Stupid beard" has nothing to do with his music :facepalm

If you take away his amazing flow, you're still left with a way above average emcee.

Listened to Come Gangsta and I don't see why that is anything special. Basically just another hip hop song about haters (the gangster references are lame as fuck). When much of your rhyming is something like this Muffin/puffin/toughin and rapping/packing/happen/sagging you arent anything speical at all.

But I rather hear a track with him than another Wayne or Minaj collab.

Listen to Red Nose, Low, Seepage, One Good Time, Killing You, Last Sad Song, This Is Me... if you don't like the "I'm the best" type of songs.

Tech isn't the best lyricist (Even though he is far above average at that IMO), but that's not the point of him. He's a musical genius. His rhythm and flow is insane. His delivery is so on-point. I can name 10 people that "rhyme" better than him, yeah, but unlike other underground artists he can actually make an entertaining song.

He has personality. His verses aren't just verses. I don't know how to describe them. He knows how to pause and interchange sets of vocals and make his verses catchy. Not taking away from his hooks, which are also great. His songs are like watching a movie.

But, if you're all about "rhyming" and lyrical complexity and you ignore all of that, then yeah, I guess you're not going to be all that impressed. In my opinion though, he's one of the few rappers I genuinely call "Amazing". Not amazing as in "Damn, I really like this", but "Damn, this is fucking amazing".

On top of all of that, I'd still place him top 20 lyrically.

The underground is huge. There is a million better lyricists than Tech there such as Rakim, Del the funky homosapien, Prodigy, Guru etc. Journalist is a new artist and he is entertaining too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bruhiLuSLG4

I didn't say his rythm and flow were bad, just that it is pretty much the only thing I find great about him. Of course you should have lyrical complexity. Why even listen if the songwriting sucks? Big daddy kane has, or at least had, amazing flow too but he is far more entertaining than any Tech song I have ever heard (Andre 3000 is another one):

I could never justify having him in my top 20, that's for sure.

Come Gangsta isn't about haters....dude, wow. It's about people peole wanting him to be Gangsta because they think his music is white and satanic. And he just retaliates. Kind of like people wanting Lupe to "dumb it down" so he made Dumb It Down as a response.

Ok, now, see you weren't paying attention to the rhymes. He rhymes more than that, let me break down the 1st verse for you:

Hey, I've been bustin'
And fizz knuckin' bitches
It tizz nothin' for years puffin'
I've been clutchin' riches from his muffin'
Heres fuck you n.iggas this is tough and I
(Don't know what the fuck you thinkin' telling me this shit is hella fake)
Say, since way back in the days rappin'
The blaze happened
I raised raves craved days, was blade packin'
And stayed saggin'
They's wack and Nina stays laid back and I
(Laugh at n.iggas constantly they never know the money Nina makes)
Hey, this is amazin' how n.iggas formulate they hatin'
You fuckin' fornicate your mistakin'
We can never correlate cause you fakin', huh
Who's bringin' in through bacon, huh
Who's keepin' this shakin', huh
(Got any questions Sinister Tech and Tecca Nina n.iggas know the rest)
Gay, is all you punks and mitch bades this in your trunk won't get played on the radio
Too gangsta for an old lady bro
Gangsta n.iggas don't hate me no
Wanksta n.iggas won't face me though
(Talkin' shit and books my people tellin' me that I really need a vest)

Change "haters" with "critical people" if that's more appropriate. Why even make a song about such stuff? It's like taking something every rapper has rapped about and just do it one more time with a little new twist (misunderstood music that is).

I never said that those were the only rhymes. Just that many of them are like those which you proved. A couple of good ones now and then but also a few that is incredibly forced.

Tech, obviously wants to be able to explain himself and release his anger through song. If he wants to retaliate to the pressure people are putting on him he has the right to as long as it's executed successfully.

I understood it like you said he's ONLY rhyming bustin'/knuckin'/puffin/muffin/tough and etc, which isn't true because he's rhyming more syllables in there: been bustin'/fizz knuckin'/years puffin/his muffin.

Dude what.
I never actually gave Tech a chance, but... wow.

My favourites so far are "Dysfunctional", "Red Nose" and "Killing You".

I also like "Low".

I'm tots looking forward to hearing this Em/Tech collab. :D

Del's the man, but his last amazing album was Deltron 3030.

Prodigy,

From Mobb Deep? He fell off like 10 years ago, lol. Even in his prime he wasn't an amazing lyricist he's more reknowned for his amazing delivery, voice ( probably the most sampled rapper out there), and flow.

Guru

Same with Prodigy actually, he was never really that great of a rhymer, though he had a great voice if that counted for anything and is also sampled to death.

Sorry if it seems like I'm nitpicking just felt like saying, lol.

No disrespect to Rakim but I honestly think he's been surpassed, rhyming-wise by a few of today's rappers. Tech N9ne is one of 'em.
