After hearing this new tape that Koolo leaked, I've been adding stuff up in my head. I think it's safe to assume that It's Been Real was made around 2007-ish. I feel that he had closed his book at that point, he was finished. He wanted to walk away. But it almost seems like the people around him made him stay, I mean he talks about how much people wanted him to get sober, imagine how many people wanted him to keep making music.

It seems to add up now, the way he acts towards rap now, the way his presence is. I mean, just look at the TRShady banner right now at the top of this page. He doesn't seem completely happy. It almost seems like he's making music because we want him to.


He obviously loves hiphop. I'm not saying that he doesn't have that passion anymore. All I'm saying is that it seems like he has to force it now. As if he left in his head long ago.

I see what you are saying, but I don't think it is about him being "happy" as much as it is about him being mainstream. This is the first time Eminem has been really blatant about attempting to make a commercial record. We've always known that the pattern of jokey first singles was for the sake of getting mainstream attention, but the album tracks (especially MMLP) basically left all concerns of appealing to a wider audience behind. With Recovery, he attempted a whole album for that wider audience - I remember reading some interview with Paul where Paul said that Em realized Relapse may have been the record he wanted to make but not the record the average rap fan wanted to hear and took that into account making Recovery. That's got to be uncomfortable territory to be in. I mean, he basically gave Rhianna credit for Recovery's success in his Grammy speech.

I realize I'm not saying anything new - there are lots of threads on here with people complaining about him using the different producers, the pop-star hooks, the punch-line constructions - and I think all of that stuff is intended to make the record more commercial overall. There are a few tracks on the album that are obviously personal. And I do really like Recovery. But I agree that a lot of this seems forced, and I'm sure that there are lots of influences in that direction, including his own desire to settle down a little. Because really, and whoever can hate on me however much they want for this, but what possible explanation is there for Em's love affair with all things Young Money other than mainstream appeal?

I kinda agree with the OP, when he came back it did seemed forced but I think it was the going out and doing interviews, being shown again that he was pissed about.

Now he is at the top again and deserving of it with Recovery, I think he realizes where he was with music when all this leaked shit was recorded, where he was in the game with his first 3 albums, and where how he needs to get there again which I think he did, but end at the top where he belongs
