It's More Than The Album...

Postby Slim Fiasco » Nov 4th, '13, 15:49

What I love about Em this time around is that everything outside the album is falling in place too. And I'm not saying that it hasn't happened before but anyway. As EmBase mentioned, if you watch the SNL or the Rap God performance, attention has been payed to all details. The clothing, the scenery, the body language. With him having his hair dyed, the awesome music videos, as well as the interviews we've had so far - everything feels so congruent and it's like there's a whole theme going on. I'm not sure if I'm being clear in what I'm trying to say, but with this album Everything seems to be in the right place. Like with Relapse and Recovery there were the accents, the shouting, the awkward performances, corny punchlines etc. With MMLP2, I see pretty much nothing wrong.

Also, while I've seen a lot of Hip-Hop fans hating, the general public seems to love it. I played some songs to a lot of friends/cousins who aren't into rap like that, and they all loved it.

I agree. i havent really thought about this but youre right. a month or 2 ago i was worried, thought the promotion wasnt what it coulda been, and then rap god came out of nowhere, the monster dropped a week before the album, and his pre-order on itunes has been number 1 for how many days now? he has had all 4 singles in the top ten on itunes for how many days now? snl and youtube sat/sun and the album dropping tomo, as well as everything you stated...it seems to all be fitting and working well.

Yeah. I've said before that this new album and his new performances are a return to form for Marshall. We finally have an album that is memorable and has a large number of good songs on it. To be fair, all of his albums have gems, but, this new release is just stunning. I mean, come on, Brainless, Rhyme Or Reason, Baby, Desperation, Groundhog Day, So Far and So Much Better are insane.

Granted, he does had a few bad cuts, but, I think all of his albums had 1 or more bad tracks, but, even those bad tracks were at least listenable. Shit, even Fack is decent lyrically. The comedy element is back i his music. Him ripping on his dad on Rhyme Or reason was fucking hilarious. Just the way he used his adlibs with the samples of that guy was fucking hysterical.

The formula has returned, I feel like he sounds like his old self again. No, I don't have nostalgia goggles on, I'm just saying. I do enjoy Recovery and such, but, this album is just nuts.

With all this said, it brings a tear to my eye knowing that Em' is back with so much tenacity.

I hope he keeps putting out amazing music.

I agree with that, Em is finally in the right state of mind, back in his prime per say!
It's different, them last two albums didn't count
"Encore" I was on drugs, "Relapse" I was flushing 'em out
and on Recovery he was getting back on his feet, and now there's no stopping him;)

I've noticed, especially the Rap God performance that he's very confident. His actions look like SSLP/MMLP days. For instance, the Rap God performance he stood in one place and just rocked out instead of the last few years walking around uncomfortably (crows feet haha). But yea, he's on top of his game right now. Sobriety takes awhile to get used to. It's been five years, and I think he's finally back to being comfortable.
