Swap "Evil Twin" and "Bad Guy"...

Postby EminemBase » Nov 6th, '13, 09:25

A few others have said this too @ "Bad Guy" ending the album.

Try starting the album with "Evil Twin" and ending with "Bad Guy", it actually works well and I think better; there's something not quite right about ending on "Evil Twin".

I think this actually works better, "Evil Twin" is a nice intro which kind of sums up the themes and what you may be expecting of this album and dismisses it, it also addresses the duality right off the bat which makes much more sense than addressing it after "Headlights".

"Evil Twin" seems to address the duality, flip-it and kick off the musical ride.

And then you go through the ride, wondering if "Stan 2" will ever come, and then right after an emotional climax ("Headlights"), the saga ends with a metaphorical/storytelling pivotal closer. And then you'd walk away with that last 2 minute climax which pretty much perfectly ties-up the themes of MMLP and Eminem's career thus far... seems like it would be as much a genius closer, as an opener.

Thoughts yo?

I've thought that since my first listen.

I love it the way it is, but it would have worked just as well if not better the other way round.

I thought for a second that in Evil twin, he would be back. False hope.

i think even Eminem would be knowing that Bad Guy would have been one hell of a closing track. But theres always a reason for the placement of songs in his albums, the way he does it. he always wants to surprise the listeners with fresh sounds. and specifically every eminem album you see has the opening track with that "WOW" element and leaves the listener astonished and hyped for the rest of the songs. be it kill you, white america, 3 am, cold wind blow all had that "oh shit this is on some another level" when u hear it for the first time. i dont know how to explain it.
Evil Twin is indeed a dope slim shady track but would not be as effective as bad guy in terms of being a mind blowing album opener to the listeners.

But I could never look past the fact that Bad Guy was pretty much made to be an intro, what with the "one last time, I'm back", and "as we pick up where the last Mathers left off" and how it leads into the Parking Lot skit.

I think it's perfect the way it is. Not to say that swapping them would be bad but I just think that last verse on Bad Guy is the in your face, aggressive opener he typically has. The one that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The lyrics in them cover so much stuff and is very introspective. Evil Twin, as dope as it is, is one note. It's just him going off for the sake of going off. Bad Guy's last verse pretty much explains the entire thought process behind the naming of the album and sets the mood going forward.

I thought this after my second play of MMLP2. I like how it plays out, but it would've been cool if it started out with Evil Twin too.

Bad Guy closing line "As we pick up where the last Mathers left off"

wouldn't make sense
