From what I've heard and read is: After when Dre played some of Eminems tracks for his friends, somebody liked what they heard, but most of them asked "What are you doing ?" "Look, this guy is blonde and have blue eyes. What are you doing?"

But Dre still signed Eminem to Aftermath, because he felt Eminems talent, and the rest is history.

Or did you meant after the signing? :sweating:

Anyway, that's all I know..

you talking about the mainstream reaction ?

if so man everything is logged on news websites just check for articles n stuff.

if you mean theunderground sort of reaction then idk.

but im guessing it was a big thing that the father of gangsta rap and a founder of death row just signed a white battle rapper from Detroit ya know lol

I started listening to Eminem when The Eminem Show came out. I feel sorry for not listening to him back in the days he first blew up. Lmfao, aight, to be honest, I was too small to listen and catch the meaning of his songs back then, so it doesn't really matter. I wish I was born earlier or something, 'cause it would've been really interesting to see.
Plus, he toured so near to my country when SSLP came out. Now I'll probably never see a live performance of him and that's really a shame. :n:

dre has acknowledged that em sorta revived his career, so i don't think much people were looking out at dre's venture during em's signing, until ya know... chronic 2001 one came out and that blew up. and THEN that's when people started noticing em, and by that time, the music spoke for itself, and people knew that em was the real stuff, and that he could really rhyme.

i actually remember ll cool j doing an interview during that time, and he mentioned em... he said something like "dre has this new white cat, eminem, coming out, and he's phenomenal." completely paraphrased that, but you get the gist of it :p

yeh one of the first places i heard or seen eminem was the video for forgot about dre lol

eminem was out before chronic 2001 came out. i started listening to eminem when i first heard "My Name Is" on the radio right before his cd came out. i don't think many people knew that eminem had been signed until My Name Is because a national sensation in the US. then people foud out he was white and it was suddenly ok for white people to listen to rap
