Judging from that beat and "Crack a Bottle" though, I've got a feeling there will be a lot of piano production on songs, especially now with the Elton John rumor emerging.
But I can see it being a dark album. Maybe "We Made You" was meant to throw everyone off.
Also, the fact it's called RELAPSE, Proof getting killed, another divorce, the anticipation, the pressure, the recent drug stint, rehab, it all points to it being a dark and powerful album IMO.In the initial recording stages of Relapse, record producer and long-time Detroit collaborator Jeff Bass of the Bass Brothers worked with Eminem on twenty-five tracks during the two-year period after the rapper had received treatment for his sleeping pill-addiction in 2005.[2][3] Bass described the production of those songs as an attempt to return to Eminem's original sound, similar to The Marshall Mathers LP
And right there, the Bass Bro's said he's trying to return to an MMLP sound. I hope it's not forced but I think it will be as powerful but MORE lyrical because Em has gotten much better at wordplay since MMLP. Whilst not as dark, his wordplay and rhyme structuring has just gone to another level.
Then you have the fact that Royce Da 5'9 recently said he thinks Em's album will change the game. And, as loyal as Royce is to Em now that they're friends again... Royce always stays true to Rap, so I can't see him making a statement like that unless the album was something truly fresh and powerful.
I think Relapse will be powerful but then Relapse 2 will be the powerhouse. Especially given the fact that 50 said Relapse is "a treat" but the second one is "exciting". And, I know they're close friends and he's obviously not gonna say "it's crap" but "exciting" is an exciting complement! To me that signals, fresh, new, dark and powerful.
Also, Em is obviously fully aware that people think he went a bit soft and silly with Encore so the chances of him going anywhere near that type of style is slim to none IMO. He has always kept his ear to the street and inside hip-hop so I bet he's conscious of the expectations and doubts from hardcore hip-hop fans. And at this point in his career with nothing more to prove, I bet he's gonna deliver some truly powerhouse material. It's been five years since a solo album, there's no way he's gonna come soft.
