When asked about how his lyrics can be portrayed hateful and homophobic and the interviewer quoted 'Kill you'' And 'Criminal' lyrics he took a moment to answer and said in the end it was due to his colour and coming up and didn't get why he was being subjected to it cause off rappers before him saying the same shit. But stuff what he said was all to get a reaction from people like it did. he stated it many times that what he was saying was to get people mad cause there didn't get it. ' hate fags the answers yes' most sarcastic shit ever, and he fully knew what he was doing and how it would be perceived.To get a reaction and make people mad.Just didn't get why he didn't say that to a interviewer, but i do agree colour has a part to whY he was being targeted but main reason is basically what he said around Marshall Mathers LP.

He finds the questions about homophobia really awkward, probably becuase it's been thrown at him for years now.

I still dont get why Anderson Cooper brought all that up? He's explained it before.

Typical Eminem interview questions: about growing up, homophobia, his mother and father and his kids. That's all his fucking asked. Not sure why everyone thinks this interview was anything special.

The problem is... he's probably said that a million times. He's probably really sick and tired of being asked about it.

Also, if you look: when Cooper recites the lyrics to Criminal, Eminem responds with "yeah..." and he's about to elaborate. Probably about to make a good counter-argument. Of course they edit that out and try to make it look like he's "stumbling."

The fact is people use "faggot" all the time and they don't necessarily mean gay person.

Yeah but the line Cooper read out didn't really have much to do with the word "faggot" - it was more to do with the whole "stab you in the head whether you a fag or lez" line.

What do you mean? Yes he fucking has. Every single album and interview we hear about his private life. And that's not a criticism of Em, just seemed a stupid opening.

And some people just don't accept "gay" being used as an insult. Or making jokes about gay people. The whole thing looked heavily edited, so who knows what was actually said. Cooper is catching flak for going "too easy" (i.e. not harassing him about it) on Eminem. So this whole exercise was useless for all concerned anyway. Like it always is.

If I understood his beef with the Vince Vaughn trailer correctly, Cooper thinks "gay" shouldn't be used in any deragatory or jokey way at all. He thinks it's wrong to use it even if it obviously means "lame", "stupid" or whatever. So if Eminem answered that he's using it in an ironic way and as a provocation and Cooper didn't go after him for it (which he probably wouldn't since he seems to know that journalists aren't supposed to be pundits most of the time)...well, keeping that part in the interview would have been supremely awkward for Cooper. Just a thought. And he's explained it hundreds of times anyway, no one listens, everyone wants to be offended. So it wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

But I thought the points Eminem made were valid anyway. The hip hop culture as a whole uses this language. He's being singled out for extreme hyperbolic outrage and moralizing. It probably is because he's white and the (overwhelmingly white) mainstream media and (political) establishment feels more comfortable attacking him and also because he is perceived to be reaching a white audience that's supposed to be "above" all this "ghetto" content. "See the problem is I speak to suburban kids..." and all that jazz. And he will continue to use this language, but that doesn't mean that he has a problem with gay people. Which would be clear to everybody with half a brain who listens to his songs.

But, again, many people believe that making jokes about homosexuals and using "gay", "faggot" as an insult is categorically wrong. They would have a problem with him even if they understood what he's doing. Which most of them don't.

They probably took that as a joke because he changes his voice but then take the rest of the verse seriously. You know what really annoys me? He gave lyrics Em wrote 10 years ago as an example, why not use "Cold Wind Blows" or some other song in Recovery? Why?
