Strictly in terms of a dope hiphop album, I think with an improved track list Relapse could definitely compete against TES... also remember TES had Drips on it.
MMLP isn't a better hip-hop album. It's a better piece of art.
It's a total masterpiece.
But in terms of construction and... as a musical presentation, just as an album - musically and lyrically, The Eminem Show is head and shoulders above them all.
And I'm not talking generally either. I don't speak in general terms. I'm a hip-hop fan so I'm only ever speaking in hip-hop terms, with hip-hop. Relapse is more entertaining in some respects, it's fun to me because he's just rattling constant descriptive madness, which I love. And the rhyming and flows are pure eargasm...
But, The Eminem Show - the content and the execution, is still better. As a hip-hop album it means more. Relapse is just an excuse for Em to rhyme about crazy shit. Which is awesome, but that doesn't make it a better album. And, I don't consider "Drips" a bad track. I like "Drips". And, it totally fits the album. Where as "Crack a Bottle" and "Beautiful" do not, at all.
Right. It's not a bad track, but it's also not on the same level as other songs on the album like SFTM, 'Till I Collapse, Cleanin' Out My Closet, etc... So the album isn't as great as it could be. Every song on MMLP reached it's maximum potential, with a few absolutely perfect songs like Stan, Kim, Marshall Mathers, etc. That's what puts it above TES for me. Also, TES is undeniably better than Relapse, even with a tweaked track list -- but you don't think that it's at least comparable? I would never argue that Relapse>TES, just that they would be on par and close to the same level of Eminem album. While MMLP is above both of them and SSLP/Recovery/Encore would be below both of them.
