It's actually a very good thing. People are just too caught up in bashing the beats and the features to really appreciate Recovery. It's a much more genuine album than what people make it out to be. All this bullshit with selling-out, and hating on Wayne and Rihanna...those are excuses. For every Not Afraid and LTWYL, there's a Cold Wind Blows and an Almost Famous. It makes me think people on this site take LTWYL and make it out like all of Recovery sounds like that. Which it DOESN'T

I think, I'm gonna make a thread breaking the album down in a unbiased way so people can shut the fuck up about it.

He mentions God in several songs. Of course Marshall is a man of God.

I think those people saying Recovery is a pop album are those people that think popular music = pop music.

They think the genre of "pop" music is referring to popular music, and it's just shortened to "pop" colloquially. So they think if a song gets popular it suddenly becomes a pop song.

It does so happen that a lot of pop songs are popular, but there's lots of pop songs which never become popular, and lots of popular songs which aren't pop songs.

Pop is a genre that's derived from rock music, I believe. It has very little to do with the music that Eminem has been making all these years, which is hip hop.

I also find what a lot of people do is they get their favourite artist. Then get their favourite artist's genre. Then any song that doesn't sound vaguely similar to what their favourite artists does, they claim it's another genre (they usually go for pop, whether it's rock, hip hop, RnB, etc. that they're fans of). They basically define the genre by what their favourite artist makes. It causes their definition of the genre to be very narrow, which results in songs that are genuinely of that genre to be dismissed by them as pop songs, or whatever. To be fair though, a lot of Eminem fans are also guilty of doing this...

I Thought About This Several Times.. But If N.W.A. Are the official creators of gangsta rap then Em should definitely get his own genre of rap looking at his musical impact..

if it has to be existing genres.. then he would definitely be in different categories seeing as he both made horrorcore, gangsta, midwest rap and so on..

but yeah he is really in a league of his own..

and BTW Recovery isn't a pop-rap record.. but it has more pop appeal added to the mix than any of his previous records..
