CDs can't fit that much data. I think it an only hold upwards of 80 minutes.

Not really. Because if it sells a million, let's say 400 000 of them will be the normal edition and 300 000 the deluxe editions but if it's counted double, you'll have to multiply the deluxe edition numbers only.

Which means it would have sold 700 000.

Not necessarily because the standard version would only be counted once, so it may sell 800k of standard and 100k of deluxe and do a mill. Also to the person who asked if you bought it on Ems website and it's being shipped outside of the US it won't be counted in the sales.

No, it absolutely will not count as a double album. Deluxe albums are not counted that way, even with double discs. A double album is something like how Nelly released SWEAT and SUIT together several years ago.

Or more recently when Lady GaGa released The Fame and The Fame Monster together in one package.

That's not how double albums are counted on billboard. If a double album sold 500k first week, soundscan(which is where billboard gets their sales figures) would report that it sold 500k. It would be eligible to be certified platinum with the the RIAA, who certifies albums, based on the 500k sales because they're the ones who count double albums as 2 separate albums.

For example, Outcast has a double album that's certified diamond( x10 platinum) with the RIAA, but it's soundscan sales are around 5,000,000. But as someone has already said, the RIAA doesn't count deluxe editions as a double album so none of this really matters.

I can almost guarantee they're keeping this so tight / certified it as a double album to try and get the numbers to be as close as possible to MMLP's 1.78m first week sales.
