The thing is the endless accusations of homophobia have crossed the line of equal rights into realm of censorship.
It's annoying, and as an Eminem fan it honestly isn't hard to see why Em Stans respond to people bashing Em for homophobia with a seemingly endless stream of f-bombs.

I think most of the time Eminem uses the word "fag" when he needs a noun with a short-A sound in one of his rhyme schemes. I honestly think he cares more about having cool rhymes than the whole button-pushing/provoking stuff.

It's the go-to noun, just like punk/cunt is for the short u, and bitch is for the short I.

Can you honestly say that most of the negative reviews MMLP 2 has gotten hasn't been due, in some form, to Em's alleged homophobia?
I see only a slight difference between that and burning the books of political dissenters, they are both means of supressing/discouraging the spread of media, granted one is much more subtle than the other.
It basically boils down to, "I don't agree with what you're saying so imma try to prevent its spread" and please don't try to tell me that a bad review doesn't negatively affect album sales/status.

Most of the enraged screams of "faggot" HAVE been aimed at the reviewers, anybody else wishing that Em should stop using the word should know that ultimately, the decision rests with him, he can continue to say "fag" until he's 65 and there's nothing they can do.
Same with anybody else. Ultimately, the decision to be tolerant and mindful of homosexuals & LGBT activists distaste for the word "fag" rests on the individuals themselves, news articles and twitter rants are not going to help anything.

I think it just depends on the situation. Sometimes the rhyme takes him there, and sometimes it's a mixture of both - the rhyme, and the realization that he can form entertaining bars using "homophobia."

And that's one of the things I really like about the battle scene with KOTD, etc. There's this unstated understanding they all have amongst each other that everything in there is an act. They can get as racist, homophobic, "offensive," and personal as possible...and the more "offensive" it is, the more they all enjoy it. Dumbfoundead doesn't give a rat's ass if you talk about his slanted eyes, yellow skin, obsession with math, dishonoring the family, wearing lampshade hats in Vietnam, call him a chink...he just laughs and thinks about how he's either going to flip it, or hoping his own verse will stand out more than his opponent's. Then he shakes hands and has a good laugh with his opponent, and moves on.

Kid Twist is well-educated, completely the opposite of a "street" rapper...and he'll go in there and tell racist, "homophobic," and sexist jokes with the best of them. He'll say "faggot" any time he wants. But if you were to get him outside the battle context, I'm sure he'd be completely supportive of gay rights and tell you about how the stuff is obviously only for comedic/entertainment value.

That entire scene is the son Eminem doesn't even know he has. These guys come from the Eminem school of tongue-in-cheek. That's their mentality. "We can say whatever we want, and it'll be understood that it's all an act for the art form."
