There is a difference in recognizing albums that lay the groundwork of hip hop milestones vs which are actually better albums TBH

So tired of seeing "I CAN NAME ALBUMS BETTA DEN MMLP BUT I CANNOTZ EXPLAIN Y DEY BETTA"

Most of those albums just talk about the "black struggle" and how it's hard growing up in the ghetto...

MMLP actually challenged people to THINK for once. "OMG DID HE RLLY KILL HIZ GIRLFRIEND!?" "OMG WAZ STAN A REAL PERSON?"

The storytelling and lyricism on that album is unmatched.

Tragic portrait of an artist tortured
Trapped in his own drawings

But in my head there’s a voice in the back and it hollas
After the track is demolished
I am your lack of a conscience

I’m your time that’s almost up that you haven’t acknowledged
Grab for some water but I’m that pill that’s too jagged to swallow

Nas is a better lyricist on illmatic than Eminem on marshall mathers lp

Even the overrated rapper in your avy was a better lyricist than Eminem when he released Reasonable Doubt

Like I said I won't shit on his list.. But his list is just made up of hip hop groundwork being lain... Not albums that are actually better. Musically MMLP crushed on all different levels.. It's not even my personal favorite but lyricism in content and technicality, delivery, production.. Everything on MMLP was perfect. It bodies every album I can think of..

And my personal favorite album is TES. Weird how that works

In what way.. Nas is a ill MC but he is not nearly on the same technical level..

*edit.. That also doesn't explain the great production, delivery and technical prowess of MMLP vs Illmatic.. So again it's just a milestone of hip hop

Illmatic and MMLP are the same level.

But SSLP and TES are better than It Was Written.

And Jay was never a better lyricist than Eminem at any point. Ever.

There are places where kids consider Illmatic to be dusty and trash... Sadly.

Lol @ half of those even being in the same discussion artistically.

Illmatic? No chance.

More revered and influential? Probably.

But we're talking poetic street rhymes vs. revolutionary, ingeniously witty concept album statement on censorship; with a vide variety of societal topics and political commentary... dense, DENSE in irony, amazing concepts... there's absolutely no comparison. MMLP is another league.

Idk. Both are two of the greatest. Illmatic influenced an entire era of emcees and though MMLP had a huge impact too, I'm not it was quite the same as Illmatic's impact on rap. It was different. Illmatic influenced everyone's style in hip hop, while MMLP influenced rap by being against the grain of what the norm was at the time in rap.

Both are GREAT

From a artistic standpoint Illmatic may have been the same level of milestone but I'd have to say the better album is MMLP. It's pretty clear to me. Front to back Em is technically better, the production is better.. That's just me, if you'd asked me how much I respect the album then yes it's on the list right there with MMLP but this argument is which is BETTER not where does it rank. A lot of homage has to be paid to Illmatic.

TES&MMLP are better than Jay's career honestly.. I think he made a huge mistake dumbing his lyrics down to double his dollars because he only shines in moments. Otherwise he could of been regarded higher by me..

Anyways this isn't what this post is about. It was a poke of fun more than anything. We all know MMLP1 is superior to MMLP2, but MMLP2 is still dope. Honestly it's more fun with tracks like Love Game & So Far... Which MMLP is devoid of.

**you posted my exact point right before I originally posted this.. Due to its influence Illmatic is more highly regarded.. But album for album MMLP is the better body of music.. I guess is a good way to say it

But artistically Illmatic doesn't touch it.

MMLP is a much more brilliant, inventive, bold, creative, daring... everything album.
