It wasn't supposed to sound like the first one production wise, or he could have very easily gotten that sound from a variety of producers not found on this album, or could have even done most of it himself without outside influence.

It was a time stamp like all his other albums have been. This wasn't 41 year old Eminem trying to be 26 year old Eminem. This was 41 year old Eminem being 41 year old Eminem.

It was to show how far he's come as a person. Where on the first MMLP he is absolutely ripping (and raping!) his mom, on this one, he apologizes to her and wants to move past all that shit.

It's Marshall Mathers because he's still rapping about his mom. Just in a different way than he has before. That's why he keeps calling it a revisit, not an attempt to duplicate the first album.

Eh TES2 probably would be more accurate but I feel like he stuck to HIS version of what MMLP2 should be really well. I take it as Eminem in 2013. Not MMLP in 2013.

Literally, all you gotta do is take out the few songs that you don't like and replace them with bonus tracks then BOOM you have your "real MMLP2"

No I don't really feel misguided. While I believe Rick Rubin seems to have more of an influence on the album, obviously. For me to say Dre was detached I would feel like I was lying. Songs like Evil Twin and So Much Better have an old Em & Dre feel to me. While definetely not as big of an influence on the sound as past album I enjoyed the spud and thought the Rubin tracks to be some of the best on the album.

It has a feel to me tbh. I agree that it's really just a collection of great to excellent to a few classic songs but the album does have an overall theme and vision to it. And he pulls it off quite nicely. I don't take the MMLP2 thing literally like a lot of people do. It's more like a spiritual successor than a true sequel. But the album wasn't trying to be a true sequel and he made that pretty clear in interviews.
