It's listed under 1999 on Himshadow's, but I'm not sure where he got that year from.

maybe he was trying to make the lp sound like the ep, so he tried to do the 97 voice in 99, when he really sounded like he did on renegade and stan, and the sslp voice we all know and love wasn't his voice in 1999 at all.

I think that it should be clear that he did that voice on purpose.

Most of SSLP was recorded in 1997/early 1998 and most of MMLP was recorded in 2000...so it's 2-3 years. So the voice change kind of makes sense. But it's still odd how different he sounds. The shouting in his 1999 tours must have deepened his voice...he was shouting every performance and lost his voice often (eg Role Model live in 1999).

He would have recorded Renegade after all the shouting in The Warped Tour.

It's interesting to contrast his original early '98 vocals for My Name Is. Then you hear the clean version of the song with the overdubs he recorded in early '99 a year later...his voice had already deepened by that point and you can hear it.

csw621 wrote:so you don't think anything changes in someone's head when they're no longer struggling to feed their family?

There was a sense of urgency to succeed back then due to his financial situation, yes.

But his primary motivation all along was to be the best. You can hear his hunger even in the Soul Intent days when he didn't have a family.
