well the next album will be a more obvious classic from the start. He had to make mmlp2 to get it out of his system. Now that he's moved on, he'll be more focused to give us a more traditional album. All is forgiven. I expect an album pretty soon. Mark my words, he's making 5 more albums until he's 48-50. He's gonna be more like Jay z.

"an album can be 10/10 for you and it
will still not be a classic for the culture
tbh.
The Carter 3 seems perfect for the lil
wayne fans, it went 3 or 4 x platinum
but this album isn't considered as a
classic"
.......
There aren't any set in stone criteria, as far as I know, for determination of a records' classic status.
Critical reviews + fan feedback + impact on society/pop culture are the three major factors that I think should be considered before the word "classic" is thrown about.
MMLP 2 has got the critical review and the fan feedback down pat, all that remains is the massive cultural impact which it has so far failed to attract.
A classic album should have a little something beyond just great songs, a certain central theme that resonates with people.
The MMLP's theme is growth and maturity and return to form, great but mostly introspective and not particularly culture-shaking.
Yet.

No way is MMLP2 a classic, and it won't be unless you see a movement in hip hop to the So Far and Love Game styles on certain albums, which I doubt.

^ By that criteria, Flockaveli is a classic.

I'm saying it needs to be a great album as far as the music goes, have an impact on hip hop, and have albums being compared to it for years to come.

I don't think that'll happen with this. It's not GREAT, it's a very good album. No album with Survival and The Monster will ever be a classic.

The Monster isn't a terrible song, neither is Survival.

Survival is mediocre, and The Monster is some Katy Perry/Miley Cyrus type shit.

He needed to remove these two, and fucking put Baby and groundhog Day on the album. Had he done that, album could haave hit 8.5 easily, and possibly a 9.

The Monster fits perfectly.
@4corners, so Lady Gaga type songs are horrible songs? or just horrible rap songs?

The only real classic will be Headlights. Everything else will eventually be skipped but So Much Better is probably top 30. Its MUCH MUCH better than Relapse and Recovery but its still nowhere near old Em songs like people here are implying. Really there are only like 4 songs on here that are good.
