"an album can be 10/10 for you and it
will still not be a classic for the culture
tbh.
The Carter 3 seems perfect for the lil
wayne fans, it went 3 or 4 x platinum
but this album isn't considered as a
classic"
.......
There aren't any set in stone criteria, as far as I know, for determination of a records' classic status.
Critical reviews + fan feedback + impact on society/pop culture are the three major factors that I think should be considered before the word "classic" is thrown about.
MMLP 2 has got the critical review and the fan feedback down pat, all that remains is the massive cultural impact which it has so far failed to attract.
A classic album should have a little something beyond just great songs, a certain central theme that resonates with people.
The MMLP's theme is growth and maturity and return to form, great but mostly introspective and not particularly culture-shaking.
