I think that it should be clear that he did that voice on purpose.

Most of SSLP was recorded in 1997/early 1998 and most of MMLP was recorded in 2000...so it's 2-3 years. So the voice change kind of makes sense. But it's still odd how different he sounds. The shouting in his 1999 tours must have deepened his voice...he was shouting every performance and lost his voice often (eg Role Model live in 1999).

Ubb wrote:dont you guys think its weird that in 1999 he made Renegade with Royce, and eminem sounds nothing like he did on SSLP or MMLP.

He would have recorded Renegade after all the shouting in The Warped Tour.

It's interesting to contrast his original early '98 vocals for My Name Is. Then you hear the clean version of the song with the overdubs he recorded in early '99 a year later...his voice had already deepened by that point and you can hear it.

There was a sense of urgency to succeed back then due to his financial situation, yes.

But his primary motivation all along was to be the best. You can hear his hunger even in the Soul Intent days when he didn't have a family.

Yeah, that always fucked with me..

I've always thought that Renegade was recorded in 2001/2002. :confusion:

Yeah, I know but he sounds almost the same like he does on the Jay-Z's version.

It's why I'm confused, I didn't think he could have the TES sound in 1999, it's weird.

Yeah, I get it but it's still awesome that he could sound like in 2001/2002 on the Royce's version from 1999.

Yeah, I know but we all know that his voice changed a lot between 1999 and 2002, so that's why I'm surprised.

Was Em's Renegade verse really recorded in 1999? it didn't sound SSLP or even MMLP.
