I always thought he made different voices. Don't know why I never thought it actually changed naturally because of concerts etc. :facepalm

True, all the yelling could definitely have done it. Singers loosten up their vocals for a long ass time before performing so they dont damage anything lol

Still the same f*cking debate.

His voice has changed, it has nothing to do with doing this voice or that voice.

His voice now is broken, deeper, so he sounds angrier and he has to yell to reach the notes when he raps.

Just listen to hear him speak in his interviews, you'll notice his voice has changed.

Jesus, get used to it. He's 41, that's normal. Do you think that your father always had a deep voice? He probably sounded like a f*cking teenager when he was 20

his voice on 'marshall mathers' sounds pretty much the same as his voice on "rhyme or reason" :coffee:

that little skit at the beginning of Never 2 Far tho..his voice is pretty high, fast forward to the ssep, his voice is nasal but also fairly deep - that's only a one to two year difference in time depending on when each song was recorded. I think it is fair to assume that eminem can do whatever flow/voice/style he wants at any given time; all he needs is a proper glass of water.

In addition, his verse from "Whether or Not" was recorded when he was 27 as he says in this song "I'm a 27 year old eleven year old.." His voice sounds like a lost recording session from the recovery era on this track but recovery was released nearly a decade later - his voice hasn't REALLY changed; he just switches his shit up so that he can challenge himself with new flows and rapping techniques. The transition from Relapse to Recovery and the from the sslp to the mmlp are prime examples of this. Also, he probably switches up studio equipment and mixing tecniques from time to time. Recovery's vocal mixing and layering is what makes it sound so sonically harsh and "shouty". The nigga was shouting on TES too but the vocals were layered differently and probably recorded with different mics and other equipment - this makes the two albums sound VASTLY different vocally.

No, it doesn't.

His WON verse sounds nothing like Recovery. It has much more power and life in it, and much less hoarse. He sounds much younger too. He was a much better vocalist in those days, though the way he uses his limited voice now (MMLP2) is impressive.

It has. His MMLP2 voice is still wildly different to his first three albums. Listen to him attempting a young, energetic voice on Berzerk...and then compare that to his Without Me voice, which actually is young and energetic. Listen to him perform My Name Is. It's almost like a different person recorded that song.

My guess is his Recovery yelling sounds more hoarse because he's mostly using his throat to yell which hurts the vocal cords and does damage. He hadn't figured out that yelling sounds better when you're actually feeling what you're saying and you let it out naturally from the chest.

He learned how to yell properly on MMLP2 (Rhyme or Reason, start of 3rd verse). I'm also guessing he drank far more fluids in the MMLP2 recording process to loosen the vocal cords as you suggest also. The Recovery shit sounds very dry/harsh.

@ Amadeo

hmm, i guess I agree with you. To me, its probably a combination of both - his voice changing naturally with age and strain and things like that plus studio techniques, equipment, etc.

On Recovery you can feel his vocal cords being damaged.

Eminem lied about his age all the time early in his career. What evidence is there WON was recorded when he was actually 27?

It is clear the Em's voice has deteriorated through drug use and age. Whilst his slim shady voices were put on, he most definitely cannot replicate them as easily as he could when he was younger.

Do 80 year olds sound like 40 year olds? No. Voices evolve. Or rather degrade. It's a matter of perspective.

It may not be what we want."
