Eminem himself said he wanted to capture the feel of 70s rock he grew up on, and he did.

Not only does he sample and use a lot of rock instrumentation, but his rap style, his flows and his persona are all totally rock influenced. That kind of, thumping, driven, loud, shouty, 'fuck your parents' spirit is very rockish and whilst rap has always flirted with that too, and has always been a youth, antisocial kind of genre; Em really created the epitome of that with this album, and no rapper made an album as drowned and adhered to that spirit as Em did with that.
