The only thing mmlp has going for it is its production

I think Em is 90% of the time lyrically superior to Kendrick, but GKMC every song is dope. Not one song is weak like Survival or The Monster.

Em should have taken those off, and thrown Baby and Groundhog Day on.

But GKMC is better than MMLP2. GKMC is a 9.5 possibly a 10 album. MMLP2 is an 8 album. Maybe an 8.5 down the line. A very good album. Not a classic like GKMC. I actually think GKMC is slightly better than SSLP, but he ain't touching MMLP or TES.

I think "The Monster" fits in very smoothly though

I respect your guys opinions and even my best friend and co worker says The Monster isn't very good but not terrible like a lot of people are calling it......BUT FUCK THE MONSTER

imo the best rap albums of the 2010s are:

mbdtf
gkmc
undun
rap music
xxx

then you can mention Life Is Good, Control System, Old and I'm not sure if mmlp2 deserves to be mentioned on that list

and Relapse > mmlp 2, even if I enjoy mmlp 2 more

Danny Brown is dope but I'm not sure I would mention anything he's done in the same sentence as Em. I would love an Em/Danny collab though.

Killer Mike is dope, but lyrically he ain't fucing with MMLP2 in my opinion. MMLP2 is as good as LIG.

GKMC is a modern classic imo. MMLP2 was pretty good, but let's be honest... there were some filler/subpar tracks. Asshole? Survival? The Monster? I don't think you can call an album with these songs on it a classic. Don't get me wrong, the majority of the album was impressive, but there were some lackluster tracks. Also, the production was a little iffy on some tracks like Asshole and Rap God. But overall, strong album.

GKMC is so much more cohesive though. It really is like one long song. It tells an incredible story, and there really aren't any skippable tracks. The production is on point on every song, the lyricism is on point on every song, and it's incredibly focused throughout. There were no weak tracks aside from Backseat Freestyle which isn't really weak tbh, but it served it's purpose in the story (Kendrick was in the backseat of his homies car just fucking around with some freestyles and a beat CD). No filler at all. No pop.

MMLP2 is undoubtedly great, but to say it's BETTER than GKMC (it's ok if you enjoy it more, but that doesn't mean it's better) is kinda wacky to me tbh. I feel like a lot of people who say MMLP2 is better will pretty much say that about anything else it's compared to because they can't help but jump to Em's defense no matter what.

Agree. The best thing Em could have done here is remove Asshole, The Monster, Survival, and put on Baby, Groundhog Day, and than either Desperation/Beautiful Pain. Album could have hit a 9/10 had he done that, it would have been a close one with SSLP had he done that.

MMLP2 is same level as Stillmatic, Life is Good, IMO. A very very good album, only a few missteps.

In other words, the MMLP2 has better lyricism, same flow, and better concepts. The only thing that GKMC has going for it is consistency. I avoided personal and introspective, because I feel that both albums do that in their own right.

GKMC doesn't have meticulous consideration for each song? And MMLP2 does?? Ha!!!

My dude, the very reason GKMC is so acclaimed is precisely because every song had a purpose and moved the narrative of the album along. It is one of the most focused projects in recent memory.

And "meticulous consideration" went into every song on MMLP2??? What purpose did Asshole serve? Survival? That is a fucking comical thing to say

Black Boy Fly and The Recipe weren't on the actual album :facepalm2 and to not put Sing About Me/I'm Dying of Thirst in the list of best GKMC tracks is just... :facepalm

I swear, I think a lot of you arguing against GKMC either aren't that familiar with the album or haven't listened to it closely enough.

sing about me is the best rap song of the past 3 years imo. Sing About Me Is the reason this album was deemed as a classic, it just elevated the album to another level

I wouldn't go that far but it was definitely a top rap song of 2012.
Sing about me is the best rap song on gkmc and sherane was a better storytelling song than art of the peer pressure

Huh?

Every track on MMLP2 did serve a purpose  Thing is, every song on GKMC was even more important because they all weaved one incredible story.

The only purpose Asshole served was so that Em could continue in his quest to shove Skylar as far down everyone's throats as he possibly can. And Survival was a total marketing tool for Call of Duty. So yeah, I guess you could say every song served a purpose haha.

But I really don't want it to sound like I'm hating. I love 13 out of 16 songs and I think this album is something special. Just not a classic.

LOL at involving the fucking Slim Shady LP and bringing him to comparasion.

I mean Kendrick is the hottest right now, but to touch Em's first three Classic albums ( that came out one after another, wich shows Eminems brilliance ) is a little unrealistic.

GKMC as an overall album is better than MMLP2.

I don't really like comparing albums. I enjoyed both of them. I honestly think Em' and Kendrick have good chemistry. Love Game may not have been what I was expecting, but, the passion they both have for rap is there, and it works nicely.
