Em songs from the last 2 years that would make my Top 20:
Beautiful: As soon as I heard this track I was like "ahh yes finally a serious song without that fucking god damn accent. I remember hearing it on youtube first on the day Relapse leaked and loved it instantly. Was going through some shit at that time in my life too so it was very relatable.
Insane: Might be an odd choice to some, but I fucking love Insane. Just the sheer "i don't give a fuck how fucked up this shit I'm saying is, I'm gonna say it anyway" attitude in it. Em just spazzes out and I love that shit.
Cold Wind Blows: I love this for the same kind of reasons I love Insane. Pure Slim Shady character again, just going all out and shitting on anybody he feels like, holding nothing back. The first verse is immense. Plus the beat is hard as fuck which adds a little something extra to it.
Talkin 2 Myself: Love this song. I fear some of us have started to take this song for granted now; I remember when Recovery first leaked this was possibly the most popular among the fans, but I see a little less love for it now. To me though it's an amazing song. Great beat, love the hook, meaningful lyrics, it marked Em as being back.
Going Through Changes: I always liked this song but it's only in the last month or 2 that I've come to love it. Heartfelt and for me probably the best out of the very emotional Em tracks (When I'm Gone, Mockingbird, Difficult etc) which means it would make my top 20.
Almost Famous: This would just about sneak into my top 20, I think. Love the beat and the hook and Em just demolishes this track. Remember the whole shouting thing was still fresh when Recovery first came out and this is one of the examples of the shouting working brilliantly. I think it's really cool how he retraced his steps to superstardom, I thought that was a cool concept and the 2nd verse is sickkkk.
25 To Life: This has probably become my favourite Em song ever. I remember when the low-quality snippet of the chorus was posted on youtube, it was like 8 seconds long but I thought it sounded epic. I love this song for a few reasons. FIrstly the lyrics, I can relate to them on a personal level so well. Then there's the delivery; Em starts of reasonably calm but as the song progresses and the beat switches up he just unloads and spits with raw venom. Some of the lyrics still give me goosebumps, "All I ever felt was dissed, helplessness, imprisoned, by a selfish bitch", "but in my sickness and addiction you're addictive as they get, evil as they come, vindictive as they make 'em!" and "I guess I'm a mess, cursed and blessed, but this time I ain't changing my mind I'm climbing out this abyss" are just a few lines that I love. Then there's the beat, it's so eerie and I just think Khalil treads the fine line of a beat not sounding over-produced but still incorporating an array of different sounds at the right time and place. The synth in the 2nd verse would be an example of this, it gives Em the platform to just obliterate the track, which he does. The snares, the guitar, the low and high frequency synths and the transitions between then all just blend so perfectly for me. And when combined with 2 amazing verses and a sick hook it's gotta be up there. So yeah, all in all I think 25 To Life would be #1 in my Top 20.
Honorable mentions: Deja Vu, Cinderella Man, You're Never Over
