Good Point made in Syllables

Postby flyingmonkey10 » Jan 20th, '11, 01:54

Check out Dre's verse and he makes a really good point here

They said 30?s the new 20
funny, must mean 40?s the new 30
interesting cause ever since then it's been in a sense
an extension for veteran rappers that are better than half
of the shit coming out right now
its all trash
the torch is gonna burn out before it gets passed
Jay said it's his last and 50 and Em
then what? Detox drops what we got then?

so now our whole camps is running around scrambling over what to do
gambling everytime we put a record out
just looking for that hook

whose taking over the torch and moving onto the throne of classic hip-hop and after Detox drops, what do we got then?
How can hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever?

Dre's cds really don't mean that much. I mean back in 1992 sure. But the rap game wasn't at the top because of him and it doesn't suck because he's not making music. He is a small piece of the puzzle. He and many others give him too much credit as an artist. His biggest influences are producing for others and that only goes so far. Rap is a big game. It doesn't live or die by Dre.

this was said at a time when Jay-Z and Eminem were supposedly retiring from the rap game, so it's kind of a different context

there "torch" does not exist because there are way too many opinions out there. Some people really believe the Lil Wayne is the best rapper of all time. Enough said

Big up to the people saying Cole. He has the potential because he's lyrical enough to attract hip hop heads, with an easy enough style to attract mainstream listeners. I really hope his album lives up to expectations.

On top of all that he's very very smart, especially with his views on hip hop and the state of the game. He's said in many interviews that he has ambitions to produce for other artists so I could see him starting up a label and bringing up new artists later on in his career.

I'm getting ahead of myself though, he might disappear in the next year or two if he doesn't take advantage of his buzz right now. There's a lot of if's, but there's also a lot of potential. :worship:

No you're right. The zero cds he has released this decade have kept the rap game alive...

He's made TWO CDS. Get off his nuts. OH NO DRE WON'T MAKE A CD EVERY 40 YEARS WHAT WILL RAP DOOOOO.

He has a impact as a producer, not a artist..

When has he ever said he's keeping the rap game alive? I think you're taking the boastful culture in rap a little too seriously? Damn, I would've loved to see your face when you heard Eminem say 'he spits on these pussies before I eat 'em". Did you also call the cops when Immortal Technique said he raped Billy Jacobs mom? Stop taking lyrics to heart.

The sign of a truly great artist is one who's music lives on even when they aren't all over the radio or even alive. Dre's music lives on through the way he changed the game with NWA to the almost new music style he generated with Chronic and Doggystyle, he is one of only a handful in music who can claim to be a revolutionary.

Dre lives off his music children now, the family he created, he doesn't need to ever drop anything. Last time I checked, without releasing music himself, he was still apart of and the head of releases including Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, Raekwon, Mary J. Blige etc. So I think he's doing just fine.
