Recording Academy Reponds to Steve Stoute

Postby RossMc » Mar 6th, '11, 02:11

Not much but...

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences finally responded to music mogul Steve Stoute's recent full-page ad in the New York Times criticizing the Grammys for losing touch with popular culture by failing to honor artists such as Eminem, Kanye West and Justin Bieber. In a joint statement signed by Stoute and NARAS president Neil Portnow, the two announced that they have agreed to talks about how the Recording Academy can "evolve in an ever-changing cultural environment."

The statement is a bit vague, but promises to revise the Grammys' nominating and voting process in order to "actively incorporate generational and artistic diversity." Reading between the lines, this seems to mean that the Academy will be doing its best to balance out its voting body to even out what could be understood as a bias against hip-hop and chart pop among its older members.
I don't speak, I float in the air wrapped in a sheet, I'm not a real person, I'm a ghost trapped in a beat.

Eminem changed the Grammys, that's why he's the G.O.A.T. :worship:

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

This is good to hear. It has seemed like it's more difficult for pop and hip hop songs to do well there... Which is a bit unfair really, because if they rarely win awards, it's essentially like saying "hip hop and pop music sucks, country and rock music is awesome".

Although, on the bright side, when the younger people of today get to be incharge of the Grammys, etc. in the future, they'll probably acknowledge hip hop more. :)

Ugh so what? Recovery still got robbed...they should take Lady Antebellums Grammy's and FedEx them to Em.

Let's hope Em can do another awesome album and get nominated a gazillion times again...then he might actually win big.
August 22 2013 - from Berlin to Paris, 400€ spent just for Eminem. IT WAS WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT!

This means that

Kanye - next winner

Em - robbed twice

Paul - big idiot. He should protect Eminem interests, but he is so passive.
Donald Duck could do a better job!

Bad news, shitty songs win grammies
Kesha wins album of year
Lady Gaga wins record of year
Katy Perry wins rap album of year
Britney Spears wins rock album of year

So the Grammies will turn into the American Music Awards? If that's the case, who will care...it will always be about popularity.

Hopefully they find middle ground.

But seriously though, hip hop isn't the only good genre (although it is the best imo), and whilst hip hop is criminally under-represented in a lot of award shows, it's not the only genre which people are biased towards. I hate country music the most. Worst genre ever, but even I would think it was a little bit unfair if country was hardly ever getting awards when up against other genres. I probably wouldn't get as worked up about it, but I'd still think it was a little cruel.

If Katy Perry gets nominated for rap categories, that's a WHOLE different matter, and something which would make me despair for the human race, and not in a good way! :D

You act as if he wont have a chance of winning with his next album.
