Eminem's Lead Single Anticipation Thread

Postby Hopsinshadie » Mar 4th, '13, 14:47

How do you think his first single is going to sound? I don't want to have Rayanna on the album tbh. I don't think a ''Not Afraid'' type song would be that bad, but I'm hoping for a better song. ''Not Afraid'' was a little bit slow. I wouldn't mind him going back to the funny singles. But I don't want a girl doing the hooks, like every other song these days. I want Em to do his own chorus. Something reminiscent of ''The Real Slim Shady'' would work. It's been a long time since Em tried to be himself.

And I know what I don't want. I don't want a club banger. I don't want another love song with a featured singer such as Skylar Grey. And I don't want Em to try to fit in and just create a song that is fully mainstream, like Love The Way You Lie. We don't need him to try to reinvent the wheel either.

How bout something just flat out awesome? I don't for one second believe that Eminem can't put out a more upbeat single that is similar to ''Till I Collapse.'' It's a matter if he chooses to go down that road. He needs a PHAT beat and then he can kill it.

Ugh. Fucker. :( I was hoping there was some actual info on this. Do we really need a separate thread for it?

Deep Piano sound and suddenly a cinematic beat starts and encompasses the attention of the listner.

He needs a SFTM song for his next album tbh

I want it to be dark. Just to show that he's not afraid to push boundaries again.

I would bet quite a lot of money that it's a 'crossover' single in the style of My Life (Fiddy not Slaughterhouse) seeing as that did relatively well in the charts.

I hope it's a Dre beat and a sinister flow.

At this point, he could go any direction...he broke from the formula to regain his footing with "Not Afraid", and it worked for him. Prior to this, he had always stuck to the formula of the Funny/Serious single progression. "Not Afraid" was strategic, to put forward that theme of recovering from two previous releases that didn't quite hit like they should have.

Now, he's riding the success of two monster singles, and the success of the album. Granted, this happened in 2010, but the point is that his latest solo effort helped him regain his footing. There's nothing to really recover from, so all there is to do is create something that is memorable and interesting to people.

A funny single can work, as long as it's genuinely witty. It can't be a forced celebrity-bashing-for-the-sake-of-celebrity-bashing-song like "We Made You" essentially was. His funny singles prior to that were also of that style, but they were natural at that time for him. Now, if he's to do something humorous, it will have to be unique compared to his previous singles from his solo projects.

Something serious will work too, because everyone loves that shit from him. It works with his core fanbase, and the mainstream audience as well. The direction he takes with this could go any way, and it's going to be interesting to see if that's what he does...exactly where he could take it is anyone's guess.

I'm sure it must be both a very freeing and paralyzingly scary prospect for him. He's in a position that he can likely do whatever he wants and it will work, but there's also--for the first time in a long time--that there's no established pattern for him to follow.

EDIT: Creepy how IAN responded in the exact same way I did to that comment by Blu. I was typing this goddamn article, because the smiley would not suffice, while he was clicking the same smiley after bolding the same little bit. Get out of my head, faggot.

No, tbh.

SFTM was monstrous and if he does another song on it's level now, it won't have the needed impact. It would be more like "NA", just a little more attention as a crowning price. That's not the need of the moment. He needs to try and harness more than what either of the songs managed to do.

I wasn't talking about a sequel either.

I got your point now, and I agree to it to a extent.

That's an interesting point you brought to the table. He should address today's youth, more like how he starts on "Fight Music". That would be an awesome concept. It would definitely get the attentions of the stupid ass critics in the right way. Keeping in mind his ability to touch the most controversial aspect of things, it would be really good if he did that.

I have no idea what to expect of his first single. I'm certain it won't be a funny single. He'll probably just leave the Shady songs for the album instead of a single
