Olly Murs ‘inspired by Eminem’

Olly Murs has revealed that he was inspired by Eminem when writing new single Dear Darlin’.

The former X Factor star says classic Eminem song Stan, in which an unhinged man writes a series of letters to his idol, was the starting point for his new song.

‘I always remembered the idea of Marshall Mathers and Eminem when he did Stan – he was writing a letter,’ Murs told 4Music.

‘That was one of the ideas we had for this song. We said, “The song should be called Dear Darlin’ and it should be the start of writing a letter, that would be so cool”.

This song was kind of a way of showing people that you don’t have to text or tweet or Facebook. The old-school way of doing things is writing letters and I used to write letters to my girlfriends.’

The singer has also been discussing his desire to record a duet with someone else, citing Lily Allen as his top choice for a collaboration.

‘I’ve never done a proper duet so that’s an idea I’m thinking about at the moment,’ he told the Daily Star Sunday.

‘It would be nice to do something different for Christmas and there’s so many amazing artists around right now.

‘I’d love to do something with Lily Allen, I think that would be really cool. Or aiming high, there’s obviously Rihanna. Who wouldn’t want to do a track with her?’
