Does Em want to be criticized?

Postby Jimmy Conway » Oct 12th, '13, 16:28

Over Em's career he's always flourished being the guy that has to fight, that has to overcome.

But the past few years, that hasn't really been the case. He's extremely popular, most people are either indifferent towards him or is pulling for him.

"Cut the fucking act like you're happy, I'm fucking back again"

Lines like these are a little laughable. He still tries to have that "Fuck you, I'm here, deal with it"

But everyone wants him here. It isn't 2000 anymore. People aren't protesting him like they did then, they aren't freaked out by what he says. The world has been desensitized to most things and Eminem doesn't really bother that many people, no where like he did back in the late 90's early 2000's.

So to get to the point of this thread. I was thinking that he might need some more fuel for the fire. He's the good guy, the guy that everyone came to love and wants him to succeed. It's kind of hard for a millionaire with a flourishing daughter, great life and fan admiration to really get hungry.

No matter how good this album is, it will get ripped apart in comparisons and I just wonder if Em kind likes the thought of that. Just think how much material all the life experiences this album will bring for the future albums of Em.

So to sum up, I think Em is just stirring the pot a little. Not to say this is the main point of the album. The main point is Recovery was shit and Em wanted to do better for himself. And hip hop is struggling and Em wants to do something good for it.

Fuck people who criticize him, he doesn't give a fuck. As long as he keeps his fans happy why should he care?

That's not really possible.

Once you get as many fans as he does, there will always be divisions. Unless you make all time best albums like Eminem Show and MMLP, then it's hard to be divided.

But anything less than classic, a large group will always have big issues. Just comes with selling 80+ million. Can't keep them all happy.

That being said, this album is going to create a big ripple in rap. With Relapse, Em was just coming back. With Recovery, everyone thought, Oh, that album makes sense, He relapsed, now he's better.

No one(except hopsinshadie, wtf) seen this coming. So it's going to be a big deal for a long time.

even if Em drops 3 more Encores in a Row, he will be always respected in hip hop for his contribution. will always remain a legend. Hate for the music will always be there no matter mmlp2 is dope or sucks. that aint gonna fuel his hunger. that Em is long gone

I agree, people are entitled to their opinions, but the truth is always somewhere in the middle for me.

Is Em the same guy or that level he was in his prime during the late 90's and early 00's....NO. Has he fallen way the hell of where he isn't one of the best rappers alive, NO.

I just wish on his next album he sounds like Eminem, and doesn't sound forced. I enjoyed Hell the Sequel, I liked Recovery and Relapse, they were decent/solid to me, but a lot of it sounded forced IMO. Not tat I didn't like it, but it didn't sound as natural as even stuff on Re Up like No Apologies or stuff on Encore like Mosh or Never Enough. That sounded like Eminem and he wasn't trying to force anything.

Em could make a single of the sound of his pee hitting the toilet water and it would still sell millions.

:y:

Em is constantly dismissed...but then again, when it comes to the people who really matter (y'know, actual dope rappers) he's always respected.

This. And he still sells a fuckload anyway. Hip Hop heads are hard to please anyway.

He is more popular now than he's ever been.

It just doesn't look like that because

1. More people steal music now than they did ten years ago
2. Em doesn't do world wide tours anymore

His influence is alive and well.

This, I mean look what a 30 second commercial during the VMAs did. Only reason why Berzerk "lost" to Wrecking Ball is because Miley's swinging on a ball naked, licking hammers and crying.

Em's not as big as he was from 2000-2002/3 though. He was selling 20 million albums worldwide. Even if you take into account that record sales are smaller now days than they were back then, and you can basically double what someone sells now and that's what they probably would have sold back then, Recovery and Relapse still didn't hit those numbers quite.

He was such a roll from 99-02, he couldn't duplicate it even if god gave him the blueprint on how to do it.

There are more people in the world than there were ten years ago. The internet has become more popular, exposing artists to more and more people. And with every album, that's an album that some person liked that had never heard or liked other Em albums..

There are 15 million people following him on twitter for a reason. And if he actually tweeted himself and had more than 240 tweets, it would probably be closer to 25 million.

being popular =/= being influential.

Andre 3000, Kanye West, Nas, Jay-Z influenced way more artists and albums these last years than Eminem imo
