There's something in particular I'm loving about these MMLP2 era songs (I'm talking specifically about Berzerk and Rap God), and it's how fresh they sound. I still love Relapse and Recovery, but looking back at these two albums, they both felt pretty safe, specially the later. There's nothing wrong with that, yet at the same time, I always wanted Eminem to do something a little more unique and experiment more with his records. When Survival dropped, not gonna lie, I was disappointed by how similar it sounded to Recovery, even though I still liked it. Thankfully the two next songs have been so far everything I've wanted from Em.
Yeah, I just love how both Berzerk and Rap God sound. Both are unlike anything I've heard from Em on the past, yet familiar enough to feel like great additions that belong in his repertoire. I like how these two songs are anything but safe; he throws out of the window the typical 16 bars, hook, bars, hook, etc. structure, comes up with new cool new concepts, a new array of flows and deliveries -- that unlike some of Em's recent songs -- sound natural and fit the tracks perfectly, etc.
Finally, I love how these songs remind me in parts of the original MMLP, but they try to do something else too instead of just being sequels or copies of songs from that album, which would have been the easiest choice for Em, but he said fuck it and decided to experiment more, giving us Berzerk and Rap God as a result.
Fucking awesome.
And bear in mind that these songs are friggin' singles which usually tend to be as safe as possible. Can't wait to hear what weird shit he has on the album. I'm also very interested to hear "The Monster" tomorrow. I'm expecting another atypical song, maybe as a response to the "mainstream-ness" of LTWYL.
