We miss the abundance shitty punchlines, tiring delivery, and brain aneurysm-inducing production that overshadows your voice! Please bring it back to the classic Recovery album!". Some people didn't like Relapse, Recovery came out, more people started to like Relapse. End of story. I never understood where this idea that it's basically a cycle of life that will be repeated for the future Eminem discography. Because it isn't.
The idea transcends Eminem's music. It's just a general thing that tends to happen with almost everyone/everything.
And with Em...
Everyone put down Relapse when it came out, they proceed to put it down before Recovery came out, and continued putting it down sometime after Recovery was released. Somewhere in the long 3-year wait (not the start and not the beginning) is when people starting putting Relapse on a pedestal and really giving Recovery down the road.
imo, it was just the production. When Recovery came out everyone loved it more than Relapse. It was real, it was Eminem. Before you completely take that out of context, I mean people were glad to have Em back actually sounding like Eminem and not in a creepy accented voice talking about killing people. At some point after Recovery came out people started enjoying that, though. And I think the sucky production of Recovery just started glaring to everyone.
